View Full Version : My trunk is Leaking!?!?

It's been raining for quite a while here now. I usually keep my gear bag and patrol rifle in the trunk of the MM so I don't have to drag it in and out of the house everytime I go to work. Yesterday I head in to work and go to get my bag and rifle out of the MM and put it in my squad.... I grab my bag and the whole bottom of it is soaked. Everything in my bag was wrecked. I had about an inch of water in the trunk of my car!? Luckily my rifle was out of the water so it didn't get wet.

Has anyone else had trouble with their trunk leaking? I looked around and can't seem to find where the water is coming from. Any suggestions or comments (positive) would be appreciated.

Have someone run water from a hose on your trunk with you in it. You'll need a flashlight to find the leak. Once you find the leak we can tell you how to fix it.

you know I thought of that... I would just feel like a mob hit getting into the trunk like that...

that is why they have the glow in the dark handle in the trunk

When your wife suggests, "get in the trunck Honey and I will help." Then, you can suspect a mob hit.:)

My Marauder Currently has a leaky trunk. My Grand Marquis had the same prob. I ended up replacing the large rubber seal ( That goes around on the edge of the trunk opening) on the Grand Marquis and that fixed it. The rubber seal never looked bad, but thats what caused the leak. So think about getting a new seal...thats what i am doing with the Marauder.

Keep the keys in your pocket when you go in :)

If you have done ANY work on the tail lights and disturbed the sealing compound on the bolts, they'll leak. Either rubber gasket them or apply some silicone before tightening.

Also, you can remove the large rubber seal and use some silicone and reapply it. That may help.:)

I too have the same problem with the water .. What i do is when the car's not covered and i know it's going to rain is turn the car around so the front is facing the house and the rear is facing the street ( normaly the car is backed up on my driveway) .. I think it has somthing to do with the trunk gaskets Not making a tight seal..

I only have trouble with leaking at the car wash. I think the way I run the wire from inside the trunk for my XM antenna comprimises the seal.

The seal looks fine. How much was a new seal?

I did just do the S55 treatment on the taillights. I didn't put any silicone ont the bolts when I put them back on. That will be the next thing I do.

I went out and checked the seal after reading the above posts... it looks fine but it is loose and was easily pulled away from the seat. Is it supposed to be that easy?

I always back the car into the driveway. (I was a very slight incline in the driveway and when I back it in the adjustable ride height thing kicks in and jacks the back end up, in short it looks cool when backed into the driveway). Maybe I should just pull in regular like.

Thanks for all the help guys.

It's the seal around the trunk. replace it with a new 1. thats what i did and i drilled 4 holes in the bottom of my trunk and sprayed the holes with teflon rust proof paint.

My trunk leaks when it feels like it.. :shake: Some rainy days it will leak and my gym bag and gear will get all soaked but other days it will rain hard and it wont leak at all. I think I will TO ,,,replace the seal around the trunk. Where did you order yours ??? (Dealer?)

Mine leaked on the passenger's side and drove me nutso until I discovered it was leaking from the rear window!!!:argue::mad2:

I lifted the rubber lip down the side (from the roof to the trunk) and using clear silicone with the "snout" on the tube squirted a bead all the way down the edge of the glass!!:D

LEAK FIXED!!!

I suspect the butyl rubber bead applied when the glass was installed at the factory had a bubble or a break in the bead??

Two years now and no more wet trunk!!;)

I recently did the S55 treatment so the tail light had to come out... I put them back not thinking to redo the seals on the bolts. It rained yesterday and I got nosey while unloading my gear into my patrol car. It is the bolts that go into the trunk from the taillights. I had water running down from them into the trunk. Next nice day I get I'll give them an ample covering of silicone.

I also found the seal on my back window is loose and needs silicone as well.
