I just put new Falken tires on my car.235/50 front and 255/55 rear.I want to get some drag radials to try and save wear on the new tires.I have "17 Mustang wheels and want to get some DR's. for the days at the track. What is everyones opinion on size and brand?
When I get a chance to clean the car/new tires I will put some pictures of the tires up.I like them so far(1 day)and the were cheap.

This reply is directly for track situations...not street daily driver.

Save yourself the pain (of fussing with 17" configuratuions) and go with a 16" rim and drag radial....or spring for the latest and greatest 18" from Mickey Thompson.

Assuming chader's not concerned with ABS/Traction Control, I disagree with the "fussing" part. 17" is a common drag radial size, and 275/40R17 is what's used on Terminator Cobras and 4th Generation Camaro SS's. Had you said 15", I'd agree because there are lots of options, but there are just as many 17" as there are 16" options (both categories on Summit have about 50 tires). Mickey Thompson makes excellent drag radials.

Some folks prefer to 'squat'...I prefer to stand.:P

Sorry couldn't resist the fact that 17's are too short.

So short....in fact they need a step ladder to take a piss.:D:D

reason for the "17 is that is the size of wheels I have laying around.Traction control is not a worry.I had also thought the "17 maybe easy to get because of all the mustang/camaro guys around. All I know is that your car will probally beat mine untill I can get some DR's to hook it up with.I can run mid 13's now but it takes alot playing, and I know I can make up lots more in the '60..I get 2.18-2.25 now.Plus I am killing the tires buy trying to get them to hook.Off hand does anyone know how tall the 275/40r17 are,and if they fit on our cars ok?

If going with a significantly shorter tire in the rear, traction control will kick in and ABS will be disabled. I'd recommend installing at the track unless you're going to match the fronts accordingly. I have 275/40R17 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials on my car and they clear. However, clearance will be determined by your wheel width and offset. Do you have details on the rims (e.g., offset or backspacing, and width)? 275/40R17's are about 25.7 inches hanging and about 24.9" loaded (street inflation).

the M&H DR's I posted above are 17" and 28 inches tall.
Do you know how tall our stock rear tires are?

From what I've been told at the track, the M&H drag radials hook pretty well. Stock tires are ~28.6 hanging and ~27.8 loaded, so these are a good match and will give more sidewall than the 275/40R17s. For my setup, I wanted the decreased radius to get a shorter effective gear ratio (now ~4.57:1), but also wanted to drive to the track on them (with ABS & TC), so found appropriately sized fronts.

I guess the next thing is to find some used DR's to give her a try
