J and I are going to look at 2006 (new) Kawasaki kdx 50's tomorrow.
A local cycle shop has a large number of these they are selling at closeout prices.
$799 plus taxes.
We were thinking of surprising Gage with a real dirt bike. He rode a Honda 50 at age 6 and was quite impressive even though he was unwilling to shift into three.
That bike belonged to a neighborhood buddy, same age, that was afraid of it no matter how bad his father wanted him not to be. Gage was the only one to ride it...and rode it like a champ.
He begged us to get him one, but was ok with the best we could afford, a small electric that did 15mph.
This is definately a price that does not come around every day.
IS THIS A DESCENT RELIABLE STARTER BIKE?

I still say our Canadian Army should buy 50,000 and put all our soldiers on them.
Would cost the same as buying 1 tank.
ok
Maybe 2 tanks.

That is a good price, they usually retail for about $1200. Fortunately, they're so small with not as powerful motors as bigger bikes, there's really no issues you should be concerned with. How do I know? My buddy works at a Dirtbike/ATV retail/repair shop and says he's never repaired anything smaller than a 125.

It's the last of the 2 strokes. It's politically incorrect, like my 2006 Yamaha Blaster quad and my Polaris Trail Blazer quad (2 stroke).
I also have a Honda 50 4 stroke for the kids.
The Kawasaki will never break, great price!

Go for it! If you think it is too much bike for now, take it to the shop, and have them turn the wick down a bit.

He will love it!!!
Just make sure he stays close to you while riding, in case he falls and needs your help...Perhaps, dad should get one to follow the little one around?
They are great fun, but, as you know, very dangerous...
Take Care Brutha...

Great bike at a good price, Barry. We got one for John, and he/we had a ball with it; just get ready for the dirt course in and around your lovely garden and yard, because he's gonna tear up stuff, like you can't believe.
In '88 we graduated to Yamaha TW-200's and I ride the original up at camp. You can still buy one of those new, BTW. :)

The Kaw turned out to be too small for him. He has basically grown out of that size.
We found a 110 cc that sits 4" taller and he likes it. We pick it up Saturday.
BTW: He has need riding since he was four.
He's pretty good.;)

Well...the bike we decided upon, a Coolster 110cc is just too off the hook.
We got it home, and I test drove it to see the power.
At wot it lifts the front wheel without any effort.
This bike cannot be dialed down for beginners and seems to be way too powerfull with a top speed of 45 mph.
Amazing for $740 out the door.
Tomorrow I beg the sales person to take it back and step up to a name brand with throttle control we can turn down a bit in the beginning.
The Yamaha 80 seems to be the best bet, and sits tall enough for the boy to grow into a few years. $1200 msrp. :o

Thanks MO!
We are leaving shortly to swap for a 2007 Yamaha TTR-50E which has a throttle control.
No fee. The salesman said clean it and bring it back, the sales papers never went through from yesterday and can be torn up easily.

In the brief moment dodging rain bullets Gage got to try his new bike.
He crashed into the garage and marred the cylinder cover within 5 minutes.
No big deal, got back on learned how to use the foot brake a little better and added a jacket to prevent further road rash...or in his case 'bush' rash. :P
