My worst car was a 1992 Chevy cavalier Z24, I got it for free so I shouldn't complain but I will anyway, the TCC (trans clutch converter) solenoid went out on it so whenever I would slow down for a redlight the car wouldn't downshift into 1st gear so it would die, to keep it running I would have to put it in netruel and rev the ***** out of the motor and sometimes that wouldn't even work, what a POS. After I got rid of that I bougt a 92 escort 4dr hatchback for $300 that ran like a top, but one day I went over a bump and the rigt rear shock tower went rite through the backseat and smashed through the hatch window! Then I was fed up with *****boxes and bought my beautiful MM!

I've had several:
66 Skylark (never buy a car that had a carb fire)
88 TBird Sport (Dubbed this one "The Money Pit")
87 LSC (rusted out under the rear window and roof in the door channels)
89 Colony Park Wagon (no o/d on trans, bad a/c, and exhaust that broke after the muffler)
92 GMLSHPP (cracked dash, leather seats bad, and engine that used a quart of oil every 600 miles)
89 CVLX (leaked all fluids and was rusty under the vinyl roof)

Mine was a 73 corvette, I even named it Christine. What a PITA . But truthfully, I would buy another one . Glutton for punishment I guess.

My worst car, hands down was a 1991 Bonneville SSEi (fwd, 3.8 Supercharged) from a HIDDEN bypass hose that emptied the coolant to a spark plug wire that shuts down the whole coil pack. I felt like I was on Candid Camera every time I got the keys. The power steering pump grenaded and took out the rack with it. The A/C... well it was just not worth fixing. Goddamnit don't get me fired up on this car. It is the LAST GM car I will ever own.

1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 4DR sedan with 4.6L V6 Diesel (need I say more?)

The car was nice but the engine was a PITA as well as the fricking 200-R transmission, which had to be replaced at 28K miles.

One of the fun things that kept happening was throwing off of the serpentine belt at odd times. It was due to misaligned pulleys that I eventually fixed.

1989 Mazda B2200 pickup. It was ok at first, then nothing but problems. Traded it in for a 96 Explorer.

A 65' Dodge tradesman van, with a 318. It burnt so much oil that when I bought a 65' GTO I tore down the engine, and found that it had a broken ring that had worn almost all the way thru the cylinder wall to the water jacket. When I bought it I lived in Daytona, fixed up the inside, and traveled for the next 5 years. A days pay and off I'd go, then stop and work a few days, and all over again.

my 1989 Chevy Beretta, between me and my step-brother, we probably replaced everything except: shocks, seats, exhaust, air filter.

a 1985 Reanult 5......bought it in 1986 with 11,000 km on it. Clutch went @ 20,000 km, followed by both CV joints. The exhaust manifold rusted off at 25,000 km. You may have known this car as "le Car".....it was "le piece de merde". My 1st and last French car.

1978 Chrysler LeBaron wagon.

I loved the car, drove it everywhere, mountains, cross country, highway, city, camping, runs to the garbage dump, etc...

But the things that went wrong with it were numerous.

In the mountains, Back country, the back window fell out and was dangling by the heater lines. The locks froze everywinter and I would have to climb in the back tailgate and heat it up until I could get the door open. The faux wood trim peeled off. The computer went haywire, Touch the gas nothing happens let off the gas pedal and the car takes off, hit the brakes and it surges away trying to break free, hit the gas pedal the engine dies, and then 3 seconds later takes off, take your foot off the gas and it returns to and drives like normal, for a random amount of time. Very exciting, not very comforting. I loved the bench seats, folding back seat, huge cargo area, roof rack that one can reach. The tail gate was great but like all air shock thingy they died and it would sag, you would hold it up with your head. It would stall in the cold or wet, wouldn't always start. Power steering and brakes are great when you have power and not when you don't.

But I still loved having it when it worked, it was a dream to drive and a great, for then, mid sized wagon. It would be considered a large car now.

Reminds me of the Dodge Magnum.

hmmm

Magnum, nope just had a look, Magnum is not worth it.

Infinity QX 45.
Bugs from day 1. Among others, the car was warning me about snow/slippery conditions, so the transmission was switching to 4 wheels drive. During the whole summer. Car spent more time at the dealer than on the road. Programming and reprogramming again the computer. Also, impossible to get better than 15-17 mpg (My MGM can do 24-25 when driven wisely)
I got rid of it just before the 1 year warranty expires.

I loved all my cars....

1993 Ford Escort Station Wagon it was great, my first car, it was a hand down from my dad. I had a five speed and the tires were so easy to spin. I t was teal and I spray painted a big black racing stripe down the center for ****s and giggles.

1988 Lincoln Town Car I bought it for 200 bux off of a good friend. It was all the door panels the odometer rolled three times on it. It was so big, pointy and gothic.

1999 Ford Crown Vic it was my first real car. I had it for 4 years it ate alternators but other than that I never had to fix a thing. I sold it three months ago the kid totaled it two weeks ago.

Its actually my wifes, but I HATE that VW Passat we bought from her sister. What a POS. The last time it broke I threatened to use it to cook hotdogs with. If I were ever to lose my mind and aquire another VW it would be gone just before the warranty expired.

My worst car ever wasn't really a car. It was a 91 Ford Ranger XLT. I bought it new and ordered the huge 4.0 V6 (165 hp). I ordered it in fire engine red with red velour and silver stripes. It was a loaded XLT. I only put synthetic fluids in it and took it for all of its scheduled maintenance. Let me start off by saying that I loved the look of the vehicle and the fact that the V6 would move the truck on down the road. Outside of the full on sports cars of the time, there wasn't much that could touch it from 0-60 (if you could hook it up). Ultra-light truck with plenty of motor made for a fun combo .......but ...

After two years, the factory red started turning pink. This despite monthly waxings with Meguiars products. Turns out, this was the last year that Ford applied its base red without a clear coat. The factory basically told me I was out of luck.

The second year I owned it, I drove it to work one morning only to have the temp gauge spike at a stoplight. I pulled over immediately to find that the factory plastic radiator had split along a moulding seam.

In the third year of ownership I started noticing the smell of oil and then smoke started coming out from under the hood. Turns out that the valve cover was leaking oil at the lower intake flange because of a poor design. Ford new it was a common problem and made a special kit (basically designed of spring loaded locking bolts and a fitted flange) to fix the problem (they didn't recall it because it wasn't technically dangerous). Parts and labor amounted to $800 bucks.

The final straw was about a month later when I started the truck up and the starter continued to run after the vehicle had started (had something to do with a solenoid or switch) ... can't remember. The only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery. It didn't do this all the time, but about every 3 times you started it ... like playing Russian roulette.

I was so pissed at the car that I took a steam cleaner to the engine and detailed it out. I buffed out the paint to its original shine (actually better) and gave the whole car a show car detail (took two days). Then I put the original brochure on the passenger's seat and drove it to a Honda dealership to buy my first foreign car (yes ... I was that pissed). At that point it only had 28,000 miles on it. Anyway, I crossed my fingers that the starter wouldn't do its thing when they appraised it. I negotiated a $300 over invoice deal on a 94 Honda Accord (Motor Trend Import Car of the Year at the time) and clean Black Book on my Ranger. I watched nervously when the used car manager came to appraise the Ranger. He walked around it with the salesman and didn't even bother to start the red devil :D. He pulled out the brochure and nudged the salesman and grinned. He came back in and made the deal for clean book.

I still wonder to this day if the starter went beserk when they moved it to the used car lot or waited until a customer came to test drive. :P

The Accord ... while making me feel unpatriotic ... ran for 14 years and 145,000 miles without a problem and looked showroom new when I traded it in. Brakes, CV joints, fluids and tires were all I ever changed on the Accord. I now try to buy "American" (knowing that they all have some foreign components) ... but I fully understand the plight of the Big 3 and how Toyota is now kicking the Big 3's butt. :(

The story of you ranger's starter reminds me of my 1994 Grand Prix GTP. I loved the car, went through the twistys awsome, looked great, fun to drive!

I offered half of the $5k the dealer wanted, and took it home. Regular oil changed and washes, thats all I did. After about 1 yr, It would not hold its own idle on a cold start, you had to gas/break it for a min or two, and it was doing a magic trick with the oil, no leaks, no burning, but it would need about 1 qt every week to be on the full line. (oil pump drive seal, $3 part - $450 labor)

I traded it on my 1995 camaro z-28.

They took the GP for a drive, it was warmed up after the 50 mile trip down to the dealer, but it still idled around 2k (some sensor had to be f'ed up) and the rotors were as straight as the presidents smile. I got $3k trade in and never looked back.

Always wonder how pissed they were after they started it the next morning, and then had to add a quart or 2 of oil before they sold it.

hahaha, i got one for you. A 1995 Dodge Caravan. It had the 3.0 liter V6 engine, sucked gas, and was too small for the advertised 5 people. The only good thing i got out of it was that it pulled trailers well. The A/C had a huge leak and had to replace A/C Freon every 2 or so weeks, warped brake rotors and the CV joint was about to let go. The roof weathered horribly (so much that paint flies off at highway speed and it looks like van was making it snow :))

Bot it brand new & sold it nine months later. It was the (deja vu) days of high-price gas & the X-body GM's were the rage. The wife & I & two of my kids went on vacation. Filled the trunk & headed south on I-57 to I-24. Following an F-body cruising along at 75 or so. Came to a gentle grade & realized my foot was floored & the F-body was pulling away. Got home & sold that gutless toad. It had a pretty interior though.

A 1990 Honda Accord was my worst car. It was my wife's before we got married. She bought it new, we married in 2000. In 2001 we bought her a new Windstar and I inherited the Honda. At the time I had a 1978 Cougar XR7 with just over 300,000 mile on it. The Cougar needed a new exhaust system and shocks. I was going to keep the Cougar, and sell the Honda. But the wife convinced me to keep the Honda because it didn't need anything. The Honda was nothing but trouble. It is the only car I ever owned that left me stranded. Plus, it was so small, I had to drive with my left knee in an uncomfortable position, resulting in me having a painful knee for several years. I finally sold it to a kid for his first car. He had it a few months and totaled it.
I had donated the Cougar to a church in a poor neighborhood. They gave it to a guy who fixed cars for other people, but could not afford his own. He fixed up the Cougar, and drove it for several more years. I haven't seen it lately... I wonder what happened to it.

By the way, that Cougar was the best car I ever owned, and my 1966 Fairlane 500 was the second best car I had. It had 210,000 miles on it when I sold it an elderly gentleman who had been in an accident with his then five year old 1988 Oldsmobile. His wife was in the hospital and he needed a cheap car so that he could go visit her. At 500 bucks, the Fairlane was perfect. He kept it for several years. He loved that car ! He said it was a better car than his Olds had been.

When I was stationed at RAF Brawdy in the mid-70's I bought an early 60's MG 1100 sedan. I think it lasted all of about 500 miles before the engine crapped out permanently.

Mercedes that is never got either one running well enough to get it registered. Bought them both for $100.00 when I was in Germany.
in the late 60's early 70's. original plan was to put the 57 engine in the 53 almost got that done when I discovered the frame was rusted thru in several places. Learned a lot from the expierance.

Mine was the first car I ever drove. It was an 89 Buick Regal. The odometer stopped working at 21,000 miles. and it has gone through several brakes and alternators. Once it was running it was great.

That's funny. The BEST car that I every owned was an 86 Ford Ranger. Beautiful, clean, solid. Transmission went out at 204K miles, but the engine still didn't use a drop of oil between changes.

Worst car that I ever owned, especially considering problems per dollar of sticker price, would easily be the Marauder.

I still love how it feels looking at it and driving it, though.

My dad divorced my mom in '81 and left her a le car. I don't know for sure which is worse, what an asshat!

But my worse was my first car. 78 Camaro straight six auto, here we go, rust, four different bald tires, only one side of the rotors left because of bad calipers, no reverse or third, no heater core because i sledge hammered the entire housing for it when i got frustrated trying to replace it, so i just ran a bypass hose in the car and back out so if you got cold you could just grab a hold of it for a while and oh yeah my little ice scraper for the inside windows, couldn't open drivers door from inside or pass. door from outside, no muffler to speak of, I could keep going. If you require proof drop me a pm and i'll give you my moms phone # after all she would'nt let me sell the pos.

'cept mine was the 2.8L LE2 V6 coupe in Burnt Orange with Rust color interior. Loved and hated the car. Traded in my '78 Monte (305 2 BBL) for it. Had it about a month and was in an accident. Never was right after that. Got rid of it a year later and got an '88 Ranger.
