Have to admit I'm new at this "computer bitching" however, still having my 96 Impala SS, I'm very disappointed in the performance of my new MM, after all the hype on TV and print I thought that I had finally found a replacement rear wheel drive to let me retire my SS...No way!! The SS will run circles around the MM... In fairness the MM is a very nice car but not in the same league as the SS in the performance department... Please, please someone tell me what I need to do (other then sell it) I certainly will install the gears, exhaust mods, chips and all that but still question if it will stay with the SS. Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't believe everything you read, I suppose. Seriously, the Imp & your new Marauder should perform about the same on the highway, so if low end is what you're looking for, I think the gears & chip you mentioned should help out. Read what others here have done. Still, the LT1 is a tough act to follow ...

But who overrated it? If it's not the successor to the Impala SS what is
then dude? A Wimpala or GTP?
You probably feel like your MM sucks because your SS has alot more off-the-line torque. In a 1/4 mile pull the MM should perform a hair better than the SS.
If you really want go-power, bring your MM down to Dennis for a S/C.

hd2805,
Having had both, (I just sold my '96 Impala), you are right in the low end performance. But, the Marauder is a hair quicker (in stock form) in the 1/4 than the Impala. The chip and gears (or even just the chip), should make you happier with it. So far, I think that the Impala is a better overall performer (again, both being stock), and you don't have to mod it to get it that way. The one thing that I am really disapointed with the Marauder is that, yes, you can get it to perform well, but you do have to make mods to it to get it there. The Impala was good right out of the box. My Marauder ran about .4 sec quicker than my Impala did, but the 60' times sucked.

i never ran my SS bone stock. however, @ 130,000 mi. and with only timing adjusted for 93 octane, cold air and flowmasters, i was able to run 14.81. this was at about 80 degrees and keep in mind SS have a stock 3.08 rear. i don't know if a MM with a chip is putting up those #'s or not, but we'd sure like to see. so whether you're running bone stock or have done the complete logan/reinhart package (or more;) ) y'all, especially in the southern states come on out to the Southern super heavyweight shootout 2, commerce, ga. nov.9th. i doesnt matter whether you want to just get base #'s, see where you're mods have gotten you or teach the SS's a lesson we need you guys to participate. so far only 1 MM, 1 CV and several lincs. get fired up folks! rock on, rus

With 4.10's, a chip, plugs and thermostat, Marauder is easily good for mid-14's in the quarter.

Just think what the MM would do with 70 more cubic inches!! My comparison is with my 92, 95, and 96 CV LXs and P-71. It's a lot more fun and does handle much better than they do.

Better yet - look what it does with 70 less cubic inches! I don't believe that anybody who purchased their MM didn't know exactly how it was going to perform. IMO, this car is very similar to the Mustang I bought 15 years ago from the standpoint that it is a great starting point to build upon. Personally, that's one of the reason that I bought it because it's so easy to personalize to my taste.

Well I got off my butt yesterday and ordered the gears, chip, plugs and t'stat....Now where's the muffler that can give the MM a "little" deeper tone??? Always liked the sound of 5.0 Mustangs!! Having been a GM man all these years it may take me awhile to get with the Ford products, however do have a 97 Crewcab Dually w/powerstroke and there is NOTHING that compares with it!!!

I have always like MAC mufflers. Everybody wants Flomasters, but I like the sound of the MAC. Just my .02

Have had my Flowmaster Series 40's in since the 55 mile mark. As others have posted, the sound level of the stock mufflers has gotten louder and so have these. Everyone who hears them says they are not too loud. But if I could do it over I would have gotten the slightly quieter Series 50.

i love My 40 series 2 chamber Flowmaster! The tone is perfect! Nice grunt. But then again it might be differnent with the MM's.
Just my .02
Has anyone heard anything on the 429 (that I mentioned at the tail-end of the "holding out for an 04" section) that someone out there is offering as a kit to drop in anywhere a DOHC mod motor resides.
Perhaps at that point, a modified GM 4L80-E HD trans with Howell Electronics stand-alone wiring would suffice.
Too bad this set-up won't pass any I/M emmisions programs (unless you supercharge (airpump) but even then, in Calfornia, just for the fact that you added such a motor I'm sure would constitute an immediate fail.
I predict that Ford will have a pushrod motor to compete with GM's 5.7 LS1 (CTS V-Series) and Chrysler's 5.7L Hemi LX rear-drivers by, 2006 anyway.
