Did you know most cars idol in the key of B flat (Bb) and horns are generally in the key of G. I know the second part because I was listening to Wild Weekend by The Rockin' Rebels and I know the song is in the key of G. Someone honked at someone near me and matched the pitch.

Anyone know any other weird facts about cars or maybe just the Marauder?

The Rockin Rebels must tune a little (half-step) flat. GM horns actually come in high pitched (F#) and low pitched (D). Together they make up a chord. The parts house I used to deal with would have people call me and honk their horns so I could identify them and they could get the proper replacement. Strange but true musician story!

Dom, an engine idling at 440rpms would be what pitch?

I know what an engine idling at 0 rpm sounds like.

I like it a lot, unless it is my engine.

Here's an interesting question that most people cannot comprehend;

A Top Fuel dragster sits at the tree, the lights turn green, in that quarter mile how many engine revolutions have occured? Only about 600.

Assuming a 6 second run ====> 6/60 = 0.1 minutes

6000 revs/minute * 0.1 minutes = 600 revs.

No mystery here.

Yep - but that much hell-raising would lead you to think that tens of thousands of RPM's would have elapsed. Just interesting to think about.

no mystery- question where did the rpms go
an layman guess would be they created energy to power the engine, which in turn was transfered to the tranny,then to the drive shaft, which in turn transfered power to rear wheel which allowed the car to have a !/4 mile run..

If a Top Fuel dragster runs a 6 second E.T. he just got his a$$ kicked. :D

If a Top Fuel dragster runs a 6 second E.T. he just got his a$$ kicked. :D

Assuming a 4.5 second run ====> 4.5/60 = 0.075 minutes

8400 revs/minute * 0.075 minutes = 630 revs.

Is that a little better. :rolleyes:

Here's some Mercury trivia:

Mercury was its own division at Ford until 1945 when it was combined with Lincoln into the Lincoln-Mercury Division, with Ford hoping the brand would be known as a "junior Lincoln", rather than an upmarket Ford.

In 1958, the Lincoln-Mercury Division and the ill-fated Edsel brand were joined into the Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln Division; with the demise of Edsel in 1960, it has been in the Lincoln-Mercury Division ever since.

Mercury, like the defunct Edsel, was created from scratch, rather than being a takeover of an existing company like Lincoln.

Cadillac, and Lincoln were both founded by the same guy, Henry Leyland (sp?). Not at the same time. After GM bought Cadillac, he started another car company, and named it after President Abraham Lincoln.
