Well much to my horror......I backed my silver 2004 MM into our 20' travel trailer and caught the rear right bumper square.

The plastic did not break or tear, though I hit it hard. There seems to severe scratches and a lot of paint missing and stretch marks,,,,,but no rips or tears in the plastic.

What do I do?? Replace the whole bumper?

All of this after putting my SS inserts in a couple of days ago.

Thanks.:help:

That sucks. I guess I would take it to your local dealer and see what they say. I got rear ended and the dealer said they could fix it, but I insisted on replacing the whole rear fascia. They agreed, since it wasn't my fault, and both of us had the same insurance company.

I just wanted it to look like new. I know it wasn't cheap, and I'm not sure about the total. I wanna say it was like $1200.

Good luck.

A good body shop can make it like new.

I'll agree with that. It won't be cheap, but it will cost less than the $700 or so for a new one.

My brother backed into someone and had a tear and a nickel sized hole in his MM rear bumper. I patched it and fixed it using SEM Problem plastic repair.

Can you claim as a parking lot hit and run and just pay your deductible?

no no no no.

i'm assuming this is a joke, but any body filler, even if it adhered properly, would eventually crack and possibly fall off. The plastics expand and contract at different rates.

The correct way would be to use a problem plastic repair material.

Problem plastic repair material.......

Also, I am assuming I can order the Silver MM paint myself?

Haggis.....don't disagree.....my wife was backing my 2003 ScrewCab up for me to get the Marauder out of garage.....was watching and worrying about her backing my truck into something......and took my eyes off of prize.
I deserved this one I guess.

Thanks Mercman......I will have them take a look.....as I am ready for another oil change as well.

The SEM Problem plastic is basically a two part epoxy. It fills and sands the same as bodyfiller. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have experience doing bodywork.

If you buy a new one, then you have to paint a whole bumper, spot repair yours, and live happy every after.

Just look for cameras first!!!!!!!!!!

Either way, he'll be clearing the whole bumper. With the spot painting, chances are he'll still be painting half the bumper.

The paint to do my brother's bumper including clear, ran me less than $100

(1) If you got a lot of money get a new bumper and include a rear camera. (2) If you got a little bit of money..."Oh O' better get Macco!". (3) If you have no money...turn the radio up real loud and pretend it's not there!

A body shop should be able to fix that up for you no problem. Someone ran into the back of my Sable and did the same sort of damage. Severely cracked and scratched paint, but no physical tears in the bumper. My dealer did the repairs and re-painted it for under $500.00 for sure, and if memory serves me correctly, I think it might have been for under $400.00

I just had my rear bumper repaired due to a parking lot hit and run. It had one inch long cut in it. The repair was $550. My deductible was $200 so I went through insurance. If you know what you are looking at, it is never "good as new" unfortunatley.

spray paint and forget, the best thing is it can't get any worse.

$300 total.....slight cosmetic fix and painted entire sleeve at a local shop.
Met the painter and he seemed great.
He really like car....noted odometer when I got out.....it better not be more than one mile over what I left it at....:cool4:
