I want to thank everyone in advance for lending a hand... I just made a final deal today with Jose aka macford88 on his 2003 MM with just over 36k milage... Hopefully pick up the car tuesday (waiting on my bank to send check). I checked out the car today and it looked very clean other than a couple of scratches here and there, very minor and will get them fixed right away.
I want to completely give the motor a freshen up and want to do the following... if you could suggest a specific information on each, that would be so great. BTW - I live in Southern Ca, so it is usually warm to hot.
Change oil - Can I run synthetic and if so, what brand and weight?Filter brand?
Front brakes need changing - any suggestions on PADS?
Plugs and wires - brand?
CAI - JLT? Reinhardt? brand suggestion?
Tune - what kind and from who?
I want HIDs - do the stock lights have a replacement # i can cross ref?
I plan on getting 410's as well.
Thanks again...
cant wait till tuesday... (isnt that a band?)

Weight, read the cap, brand is personal preference, filter, motorcraft
Front brakes need changing - any suggestions on PADS?
Wagner has good pads
Plugs and wires - brand?
COP's will be fine on a car with 36k, no need to change
CAI - JLT? Reinhardt? brand suggestion?
Im happy with my JLT, its cheaper than the K&N and offers more HP
Tune - what kind and from who?
Lidio tune

No cross refrence, have to buy a conversion kit
I plan on getting 410's as well.

Congrats!! As far as a tune goes I have an "SCT" xcal3 tune from lidio/alternative auto, and I highly reccomend it, but I have also heard great things about DR's tune also, so IMO you can't go wrong with either. I have a k&n fipk in my car and I like it, brake pads I haven't changed yet but I hear the napa ceramix pads are the way to go with KVR steel brake lines. Well I hope I helped you out some, good luck, Sean

Everyone here has there personal opinions on whats the best, but these are the mods I feel are the best.
1. I only use the best Mobil 1 5W-20 Fully synthetic oil
2. My cold air intake is the JLT. I love it, takes 10 minuets to install. The K&N is also good. Either one is good.

3. I have Dennis Reinharts tune. X- Cal-3 Its tuned for 93 Octane. I love it the shift points are MUCH better and much firmer. Call Dennis he will HOOK you up. 1-904-276-5003
Good LUCK
Congratulations on your NEW BUY..
You probably will not sleep till its in your drive way and even then you will probably get up in the middle of the night to see if it is really in your driveway … HAHAHA;)

I love the JLT in my car, but I think the K&N looks better...it's more "Finished" looking. I use Royal Purple Oil in Mine. I also use the Napa Ceramix Pads and they are quiet and strong. On the HID's I would go with the set that Kenny has at his stereo shop in Fort Myers, FL...the quality is strong(I have a set not from him and I'm sorry!) and you never regret a strong quality product connected to your factory(read weak) electrical system. BTW there are lots of providers for the tune...do your research and pick based on YOUR desires(local for you is better...dyno tune is the best)

For tunes you will find 3 to 5 vendors from this site who sell them. It really depends on how you drive not who makes the best.
The two most popular are DR and Lidio.
DR tune from what I pieced together, and I may be wrong on some things is, how shall I say, more advanced. It allows for fuel saving through converter lockup at various speeds depending on how you drive, and has very firm shift patterns. Dennis will also work with you to get it just how you want it.
Lidio has a more open system that disables all converter lock up until you reach 63 mph and while adjusting the shift points is not a firm as Dennis.
What does firm mean? who knows.
Both a very good but for different driving styles. Typically you may see a slight improvement in a DR tune with reference to MPG. The Lidio tune is more "Analogue" in it's approach.
Depends how you drive.
CAI will not be very different from vendor to vendor.
Brakes depend on many things. You might want to upgrade the whole works, if you, being in South California, are never going to have less than 18" wheels/rims, may want to upgrade to larger better brakes all around.
Check the vendors, Dennis has some, as do others.
4.10+/- gears are also popular just make sure you get a full kit and a good place to install them. You may want to do a full rear end upgrade at the same time.
HID's are a kit as mentioned above or you can upgrade the bulbs with Silver stars...
Alot will depend on you and your driving style not on who does what best.

Congrats on your purchase! Have fun with it! Immediately you'll notice people admiring your ride. I have Lidios tune from Alternative Auto delivered via the XCal2 and the K&N intake. Love them both. The JLT is also very good. Heres a shot of what the K&N looks like. Most prefer the NGK TR6 plugs.

wow, i feel welcomed thanks for so much information...
my driving style?? I have a size 16 foot and it weighs 50lbs... drive it like you stole it is what i say... im a bit of motorhead...
i like firm shifts, but not throw you in to your seat shifts, my truck is for that...
i will hold off on $$$$ mods and focus more on $$ mods until my truck is done... then it may be a different story.

congrats on the purchase. what mods are on the car ?
start saving your $, cuz the mod bug will start biting hard.....lol.
flush the brake fluid ( if it's dirty) refill with synthetic. the steel braided brake lines would be a great $ mod to start if the car still has the oem lines.
check the classifieds for other items for sale to save a few $. tuners, addco rear sway bar, Z & M CA's, deeper tranny pan, UD pullies.
other than that, I should have my FRPP 4.10's (18K miles) and a few other goodies available for sale in about a week, when I go back to the 3.55's
Everyone here has there personal opinions on whats the best, but these are the mods I feel are the best.
1. I only use the best Mobil 1 15W-20 Fully synthetic oil
2. My cold air intake is the JLT. I love it, takes 10 minuets to install. The K&N is also good. Either one is good.

He said 15W-20 up above. WRONG. 5W-20 is the correct factory weight. Use anything thicker than 5W at your own risk. You could oil-starve at startup and blow your engine. 5W-30 is o.k. 0W-20 or 0W-30 are probably o.k., too. But NO 10W or 15W or 20W...
