There are people in this world, who's goal it is to level the global standard of living (reducing our's). The problem is Americans are still individually armed and will only take so much. Therefore, they must reduce the military potential of this population by reducing our mobilty.

What you see here is simply another step in that process.

They are truly setting themselves up for a revolution. Let them have a little more rope, and then there will be a great fall, with a sudden snap at the end!

Remember the days when you could drop $10 bucks in the tank and see the needle move and I’m Only 21..
If I went to any GAS station and handed the guy $10 Bucks he would probably laugh at me.
These Gas prices are just SO OUT OF CONTROL…! :mad2:

I was just watching the Rockford Files and Rockford pulls into a gas station and asks the guy to put $3.00 in.

In ChiTown we pay $0.79 a gallon towards state & local taxes. Which I may add is the highest in the nation and due to rise even more!

I’ve got a little different view of this situation. For the past 10 years or more, the Commonwealth of Virginia has been complaining that they don’t have enough money in Richmond to build and fix all the roads. They have been deferring, delaying and cancelling roads projects that are intended to address known problems. In fact, money for construction is being diverted to maintain existing roadways. Anyone who has sat in traffic congestion on I-95 through Northern Virginia knows that things could be a whole lot better. Even a little relief would be a big help.

We can certainly argue the efficiency of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and their wasteful spending. But the point is that the roads in the state pretty much are overburdened and congested and this is particularly true in the Northern Virginia (Fairfax, Prince William, Alexandria and Arlington) and Tidewater regions (Hampton, Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach).

Our legislators in Richmond are considering increasing the state sales tax on gas by a nickel per gallon. That’s $ 0.05 per gallon. Current state taxes are $ 0.17 so it will be a 29% increase in the state sales tax. Sounds like a lot …. But it really isn’t.

Throw another nickel on the price tonight and absolutely no one will notice. Prices are going up that much every week – whether it is the real price of gas, the Fed tax or the State tax it still ends up in the final price. Considering that I am now paying $75.23 for a 17.5 gallon fill-up, the 5 cent tax increase will raise that to $76.10. It added 87 cents to a $75.00 bill. Big deal --- $75 or $76 isn’t too much of a difference. Is it?

I will gladly pay that extra dollar per tankfull if VDOT can use it to reduce the congestion in this area even by just a little. I figure I waste “at least that much” in gas and money just sitting and idling and trying to get home every night. Maybe …. Just maybe …. I’ll end up using less gas and spending less in the long run if VDOT can just get some of the known choke points fixed eventually.

I know that it is a gamble thinking that VDOT can really do anything correctly or even have an understanding of the problem ….. but I am not playing the Virginia Lottery …. So I have an extra dollar available. That's JMHO.

I'm with YOU, Bluerauder. There are no simple, easy, cheap or quick fixes to this monumental mess the DC metro area is in----so I'll willingly pay my share to move in the direction of a reasonable/sensible method of addressing our scenario.
