It's been a few days since I've been around here, and I thought I'd take a peek and see what's been going on 'round here. But today, I came across a few posts where guys had toasted their engines.
Is the 4.6 32V engine weak?
I've never heard of anyone toasting a regular 4.6 in a car or pickup. In fact, one cabbie I spoke with told me that they're routinely getting 350,000 Mi+ out of taxi cabs here. Yet I see folks here talking about piston slap, valve train problems and toasted engines, and there's been a post or two where guys are looking at MMs with blown (up) engines to buy. What gives? Someone set my mind at ease!!!

something tells me cabbies aren't pushing some of the HP these people are
not to mention beating on them like some of us do
also those motors are typically SOHC engines where as ours are DOHC engines
I've gone 65K (purchased w/ 48k) w/o much of a problem and I drive it like I stole it.
But then again aside from the K&N and tune it's stock
01 crown vic interceptor over 203,000 miles original engine and trans. No ticking tapping or knokcing, no oil burning or trans slipping. Best damn car i ever owned.

Well, if guys are bagging on the engines and that's why they're going, I'm ok with that answer. I guess that would be the point (for some) of having a powerful car. Still, keep the high mileage engine stories commin'. This is what I want to hear. Oh 1stMerc.... very cool pic in your signature!

You have to remember most of these guys blowing their engines are doing stuff to them.
Also something very critical to remember is 'engine break-in", this is what you do when you buy your new car and drive under 60mph for 500 miles to 1000 miles, not going WOT to let the engine settle. When you buy a used car, you will never know if someone did this.
My 96 MGM I have has 158,000 miles and runs strong. I do have a leak at the main seal I am getting fixed soon, but other then that, haven't had any engine issues. The car has been in the family since new.
Also a lot of the recent posts have been with people that put chargers on their cars or other mods, so keep that in mind.

Ludwigvan968...what you just said makes sense to me. This is exactly what I want to hear.

Not to worry the engine in question had a part installed wrong. As long as you don't monkey around with your Marauder it will last and work fine.
Other problems occur while doing a burnout...
You get the idea.
If you drive it hard and fast but don't beat on it it will keep running for a long long time.
BTW the cabby engine is a different engine from our Marauder.
Don't mind Motorhead 350 he is accident prone, or just has bad luck. He could get a job working in Las Vegas, standing next to the high rollers.

One of my friends has a 4.6 sohc in his Mustang and it's been giving him nothing but problems now 125k miles + and has had a ProCharger installed for about 40k miles I guess. My MM has almost 96k miles on it now, I've put a good 56k miles on it in 2.5 years and I don't lightly but I don't beat on her also. Dang stimulus check needs to get here so I can go some regular maintenance on her.

They blow up so dang often I bought my wife one at the beginning of the year. ;)
The closer you stick to bone stock, the safer you will be. I examined pretty closely to make sure the 2004 we bought for her appeared to be all stock. If I make all the mods, then I know things are done properly.
If you stick with tried and true MM mods from Dennis and Lidio you will be safe. If you want to live on the bleeding edge of power and performance, be prepared to pay dearly. Some of these great guys here have much deeper pockets than mine and are willing to push limits to see what new and interesting mods will to to a Marauder. They pave the way for the rest of the herd to follow. I am in the middle of the herd and appreciate the heck out of the huge amounts of money and time invested by those that have gone before me. It makes my life easier and allows me ot spend what few dollars we can put towards mods to the best use possible without worrying about an exploding engine.

Mine has been very durable....bought it new (November 2003) and it had 84K miles on it in November 2005 when I installed the FIT ProCharger....now I have 173K and change and it still runs very strong!!!:burnout:
I did rebuild the trans at 150K but that isn't unusual!!:shake:
BTW, The rear end and brakes are still original!!:bows:
I can safely say this is the best car I have ever owned.....PERIOD!!!:D
Do not be afraid...young grasshopper!!:shake:

My stock motor was flawless with 30K, at 475 RWHP and 50+ runs down the 1320. A proper tune is critical. With my built motor I had two incidents where the cams went, bent valves but not due to the motor, due to defective Crower Cams (do not ever use them:mad:). I have 5K on the new motor, drive it on the street regularly and have raced it a dozen times where I drive 93 miles to the track, raced and drove her home with the AC and stereo blasting. No problems at all now that I switched out the "suck" Crower Cams with Comp Cams. And this little 4.6, 281 CI motor is putting serious hp (641 RWHP with a 93 octane street tune, 780 RWHP, C-16 race tune with 100 shot) to the ground and drives sweet on the street. Best car and motor I have ever owned:up:. And I'm an older guy that has had several high HP cars in my life, all of which were street/drag racing cars.:D

"(641 RWHP with a 93 octane street tune, 780 RWHP, C-16 race tune with 100 shot)" Good Lord, Tom! I didn't realize you were putting out that kind of HP, I gotta see that thing run the 1320.:burn:

Well if things happen I hope to make SSHS8 Bob. If not I will be racing the car this late fall here in Florida once the temps cool down. I hopeing to bring the 10.9 to a 10.5 this fall. We'll see:D.
