View Full Version : Fall Four-Door Shootout?

TurboSS

For those Marauder owners in the Illinois and Wisconsion area, any interest in getting together for another drag race day with your oversized bretheren of the Chevy persuasion? At the last local Impala SS club meeting a bunch of people expressed interest in a rematch/friendly get together this fall. The possible dates would be Oct. 4th, 5th, 11th, or 12th and we'd probably meet back at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin.

Last time was great fun for all. So what do you think about a "Fall Four-Door Shootout"?

I'm interested, I am dying to get the Black Widow onto the track. The 5th, 11th, or 12 are good for me, can't make the 4th.

P.S. Make sure everyone is wearing long pants... LOL

OK, we have October 11 set aside for Byron Dragway. We'll have a couple of dedicated lanes and there are no other major events going on that day so we should all get some good runs in. Here is a link to the track:

http://www.byrondragway.com

For those who haven't been to Byron it's near Rockford, IL. There are directions on the website. I forget what the fee is to run your car, but I'll post it once I find out.

Now all we need is some attendees. You guys interested? This will be written up in our local Impala SS newletter in the next few weeks so I think we will likely see quite a few Impala's and Caprice's. Time to rally the Marauder ranks!

Dan,

The normal cost at Byron for test and tunes is $25.00.

Gather up the troops...this is gonna be fun:D

Calvin-

No, I'm actually equidistant to three tracks: Byron, Great Lakes, and Joliet. Actually Joliet is a little closer, but that place is BUSY.

Byron is a nice place. Not too crowded.

UPDATE!

Yolanda Cook from our Impala club has secured two trophies from the folks at Byron. One will go to the fastest Impala (or other GM) entry, and one will go to the fastest Mercury (or other Ford) entry. All cars must be:

1. full size (4,000 lbs. minimum)
2. four-door
3. fuel injected (1990's or later)

Also, to qualify for a trophy at least 10 cars must be present for the class. This should be no problem on the Impala side. Are there enough Marauders out there to gather 10?

Once again the date is October 11 at Byron dragway. The cost to run is $25. Gates open at 8am, but runs start at 10am. The track closes at 6pm. Later in the afternoon we will pit the fastest Impala against the fastest Marauder for bragging rights!

Chris-

See you there! Good luck on the drive over. Can't wait to see what your new setup looks like. If you turn in an 11-second timeslip I'm buying the beer!

I heard that the KB Marauder was sold to another forum member. I am hoping they show up. I've heard it is a nice setup.

Looks the same as last year, just a more nitrous friendly cam (114ls), with more lift and duration than the 227 cam, bigger jets, and more tuning on the dyno.:coolman:

BTW Dan, Budweiser is fine, I'm a cheap date! ;)

The big day is approaching... The track is providing two trophies, one for the fastest Impala and one for the fastest Mercury/Ford. Are we going to see a good showing from the Marauders? I hope so! Being that it will be a test-and-tune weekend there will be lots of good cars to look at and run against. Is that Kenny Brown Marauder attending? Sarge?

GudLawd, you don't know how bad I want to be here with y'all, unfortunately I'll be toting my MM down south for another sponsored shoot out in Indy.

I am trying to get my MM up to GLD this Friday night, 10/3/03, for some final pre-test runz. If y'all are around, I'd appreciated the competition, and your sportsmanship. All is fair in love and drag racing, eh? If not, I apoligize, because I have to be in the Indy market by 10/5/03.

Y'all have fun, and drive safe.

BTW...Seems like this SS/MM competition will never die, and that's cool with me. Just keep it friendly and "sportsman" like, K?

The date is still October 11 at Byron dragway. The cost to run is $25. Gates open at 8am, but runs start at 10am. The track closes at 6pm. Two trophies (one Impala, one Ford/Mercury) as long as a tleast 10 cars show in each class. Later in the afternoon we will pit the fastest Impala against the fastest Marauder for bragging rights!

Since Sarge will not be showing that Marauder trophy is up for grabs!

There will be a caravan leaving from the Fuddruckers in Downers Grove on Belmont just off of I-88 (Highland exit) that morning. More details to follow. Last caravan we had to Byron was a blast.

Talk about a nice bunch of people . I was the only Marauder to race the SS folks, and I must say they made me feel welcome . They even gave me a trouphy for my effort. Very Very few snide comments (only one person), asked questions seemed interested and generally showed me a good time. Thanks again to all especially Yolanda. Hope to meet up with you again. My hat's off to the impala crew:)
