This thread is dedicated to those of us who are intending(GOD willing)on keeping thier Mercury Marauder, till death do us part.
For Me, I'm too tall for most vehicles, the Marauder fit is perfect.

My best friend from high school was going to keep his trans am for "ever and ever" and restore it, race it, etc. Guess who owns it now (me). I don't put too much stock in talk. Talk is cheap. We'll see who still has theirs in 30 years when you can't drive them anymore

What he said.... I mean I'd love to keep mine forever, but you never know what's gonna happen in the future.

I consider this to be a project car, and my last project car was an 81 Firebird formula which I had for 13 years. So far I've had the MM for approximately 3 years. That means I have 10 more years to go for breaking my record. With over 125K on the meter, where am I going to sell this thing?
Best catch Fraze: It's cheaper to keep her!

I'd like to say I'd keep it but I mean, if someone approached me in the parking lot and offered me 30 grand for it....who knows.
I'm not planning on getting rid of it anytime soon though.

My son already called out first dibs on the Marauder...and he's 6 years old. Talk is cheap, but this car is staying in the family! I got a black one, now my wife wants to buy a silver one! I still have my 81 Cadillac Coupe de ville since highschool in 1993, bought it off an old lady for $500.00...and that one also isn't going anywhere, too many memories!

I cannot imagine owning anything else except the NEXT Marauder that comes out 15 years down the road (I hope!). I bought this car with the implicit intention of passing this car onto my kids one day....and I won't even be a parent for another 5 months yet!
I love seeing old Mustangs passed on through families, and that gets done frequently. Why is it so hard to believe the same scenario could be true for Marauders?
Even if it becomes merely a summer toy, I cannot imagine parting with it. The money paid out vs money recieved from selling it just wouldn't make sense. I have a truck that I drive for work, leased for me by my company, and a company fuel card for it, so my MM miles stay low.
Nobody knows the future, but I have never for a second thought or planned to do anything other than pass the car on when I can no longer drive.:bigcry:

I've wanted this car before it hit the shelves...couldn't afford it brand new when I was in the Army. Drove a 1981 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, since 1993 & that car stays with me. Several years after military, scored a city job/more $ & finally purchased the car I yearned and lusted for in Jan. 2008. I can't predict the future but she's/03 blk MM named Merideath & she's not going anywhere!

Oh yeah...It's me again, 30 years from now when these cars are being sold on the speed channel under the Barrett Jackson auto auction show for 100's of thousands because they only built 11,000 plus of them, I get to tell that yuppie scum, who already has everything...to go F$#% himself! I just gotta convince my son when I'm long gone not to get rid of it...it's all about the memories, I'm sure my son won't!

I wish I still had all my cars....86 Sentra, 91 Razz, 93 Sentra, 89 Bronco, 96 CVPI, 01 Taraus. But I never said that I would keep those cars forever.....this one....I did the day I bought it and always said I would go homeless before I gave up my Marauder....

Bought it new, fully paid off, It's gonna be a long ride. Hopefully, I can retire it to the garage before it rots out. If not, it'll last 15 years and then off to the bone yard.

I kept my 95 GTS that I got in 96 for over 8 years. I hope to surpass that record.
FWIW, I still have the first 2 cars I bought when I was 14 and 15 years old.

Just started rebuilding my fathers and look forward to giving it to my son when he is old enough to drive in 8 years. Oh ya, I'm dumping around $15,000 into the car in the next 8 months.
Yes I'm keeping it,

EDIT: I've got a 1983 Capri that I've had since I got my license in 1987. Her name is Trigger and she still runs as fine as the day I took her off the road 10 years ago. Mid-life crisis resto for sure...but there are too many memories in every dent, scratch and missing/replaced part! That's 21 years now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well considering I still owne my 1st car. And I purchased a 1988 Cougar XR-7 new and had it for 15yrs and 250.000 miles before it became structurly unsound to drive. I would say that it is very good that the Marauder I will have it for a long while yet. :D

Well bought mine used ( it had 56 miles on it) Now that it is paid for no matter what gas prices do it just not make sense to start payments again.
Besides with just over 50212 miles on now over five years later it is just getting broke in. SOO maybe not forever but for sure till I can not drive it anymore. (30 40 years anyway)

its a keeper. I tend to keep cars at least a decade, and some longer. when I moved to the mid west I sold a few long-time keepers since I didn't want to doom them to a future of rust. I sold them to people I trusted to keep them as well, folks that will appreciate them.
the few I brought with me, are keepers, and are being protected as much as possible until I get my shop built.
the Marauder will be around for quite a while, and I will adopt its brethren as opportunity permits...

It really depends if I could afford a SZuper V8 Jaguar, I might switch to that, but then If I could afford a Super V8 I could afford to keep my Marauder.
So count me in.

I plan to keep it as of right now. I still have my 88 Vette that I purchased in August of 93' that one is arecord for me. I also stil have my 74 Ranchero that I purchased in 98. Right now with those 2 and the MM garage is at capacity. I always wanted to buy a cool car brand new and keep it,right now that would be the MM. Next April its paid for, then I'll be real happy!

Ohhhh Yeah!
The Marauder is staying put for a lonnnnnng time. It is part of my permanent 3 car stable.
I still have my first new car...a 1985 Mustang GT 5.0 ( the last of the Holley 4 bbl Mustangs!) and the 1984 Mustang GT Turbo that I bought used in 1993.
The only cars that get sold are my daily drivers... when I wear them out.

Mine's a keeper. I still have my 1986 XR4Ti which was my first car. Bought it in 1991@ 16 years old. Had to share it with my 2 brothers back then. It's sleeping soundly in my garage.

Hmmm. I'd love to say I'll keep her till the end of time, but I've learned not to make such promises about the future. I love her and the family loves her too. Right now, she has 51000 on the odometer and will only accumulate about 5,000 a year. She should make 150,000 with no problem, but cars tend to really show their age after that. Her role as a big and fun family car is hard to replace which may keep her around for a long time. That said, there are other cars that can play that role (Charger R/T or SRT8, Grand Prix G8, etc.) and will probably be more to come unless gas continues to climb. I know there will be another Mustang in my future (September of 09 according to the wife), but it can't replace the Marauder ... it will be added to the family.
So ... I don't know. I plan to keep her for a long long time, but I never say never. If Ford dropped a 5.8 Super Charged 450 hp engine in a sweet looking 2010 Taurus SHO ..... I'd be tempted. Ultimately, she will be replaced by a V8 rear wheel drive muscle car or nothing at all.

Year, make and model of your wife?
I love my MM, and I'm determined to make sure that I can keep it for as long as mortally possible, I remember the family van we used to have it was the first vehicle for all of us and we loved that van, and just as it was over the hill, so to speak, we needed to let it go and we did to a family member for a pittance and a few weeks later it was totaled. No injuries but, our beloved van was gone. Never again!
Learning from the past I won't give up my MM willingly, but as we all know, life will always find a way to intervene, and I'll do all I can to keep my baby going till something short of complete destruction makes me fold my hand. Oh and if I could, I'd get an MM sized burial vault and be laid to rest behind the wheel. That, or maybe a viking burial

Talk is cheap, but I have a track record of keeping my cars. That is how my wife and daughter talked me into buying a MM. Like my daughter said. It doesn't matter what the car costs for you seldom buy a car. So If I am still arround 30yrs from now (I'm 66) I will still be driving mine. Even if it's with a seeing eye dog.

I am intending to keep it as long as I live in North America.
Also, I am intending to stay with daily drivers using the same base (means MGM, Town Car) as long as they are available, in very good shape.
So far, I am not finding anything else on the market providing an equivalent combination of space, comfort, reliability, security feeling, longevity, low maintenance costs and...fun.

I just plan to add to the stable. I have never owned a car that felt so good to drive. So when its paid off i'll just purchase a lift and keep her above the next vehicle of choice (hopefully a Gt500).

I love the Marauder and expect to keep it. Being tall like Bradley G, I can't just go to a dealer & buy any car. Panthers are the only recent Ford cars I can drive. With gas prices being what they are, I don't want another SUV.
I am trying to think of all the cars I've sold vs kept in 20 years. I think I've sold 3 (excluding totaled vehicles), 2 of which were parts cars.
