View Full Version : Driver's seat options?

I have a couple back injuries that make driving anywhere from uncomfortable to intolerable. The drivers seat in the Marauder leaves a lot to be desired in the area of support. I have a cushion that relieves pressure on my sciotic nerve that helps, but the seat needs more support and bolstering. Does anyone know of anything that can be done to firm up the seat? Are there any kits available?

Take it to an automotive upholstery shop. They can add padding where you need it.

Thanks for the idea fastblackmerc! There are three shops in Syracuse. I 'll ask the bodyshop that is repairing my DTR for a recommendation for one of them. I think the other option is to go with a aftermarket seat.

You could look for an aftermarket seat cover, with an inflateable bladder to help the lumbar support

Thanks, I'll look into it. I also found a local shop about 12 miles from me. I think just firming up the seat and adding some bolstering to the sides would help a lot.

Just be sure if you get an aftermarket seat cover that you do not cover the side airbags.
You might want to see if a Navigator seat fits in a Marauder.

Upholsterers CAN take soft foam out and replace it with firmer material. They can make it seamlessly done below the leather. I agree, the seats in these cars have ZERO thigh support and NO lateral support.

The MM seats have a lot more lateral support than many luxury car seats. I have lower back problems but the MM is one of the few cars I find comfortable b/c of the air inflatable lumbar

The lumbar doesn't help much. I need more support. I came out of 00 ZX3. It had excellent seats. Held you nice and snug, very supportive. I wonder how a ZX3 seat would look shod in MM leather?

Ever consider a Massage Support pad. Shop around and find the right one for you it might just be what you need.

I had an Acura TL Type S (2003) and it had very firm leather seats. They were very supportive but they were too hard for long trips. Gotta strike a balance

For back problems I have a Support belt. It makes driving with back strain much much better. FOr longer trips you tighten it up and feel great.
Feel even better when you take it off.
I went to a medical supply place and found a support belt for heavy lifting and that is the one I use, it works great is multi adjustable and has hard plastic support braces that keep your back from moving when you don't want it to.

I had a 01 ZX3 Focus and I know what you mean about the seats. I'm a big guy but not big enough to cover the whole seat so when I throw it into the corners I slide around. Eventually down the road I want to have the seats refoamed or redone completely to be more sporty to hold me in the seat more.

That's actually a pretty good idea (wait did I just say that?)

Our Marauder seats have a lot to desired. You can bring your car to an ulpolster person add or remove foam. Use all different derometors regular or memory foams. If your looking for more check out www.recaro-nao.com (http://www.recaro-nao.com)
I 'am saving for a set of ergomed E + ES seats or the topline model.

Use the stronger closed cell foam rather than the open cell urethane foam.
I have seen this done by simply removing sections of urethane and replaceing with equally shaped closed cell.

Is closed cell hard and non compliant like pool floats?
