Came out from work today and saw that some freaking idiot scratched my car passenger door with his white door or whatever....:mad2:
What is it about our cars that attracts these idiots to just slam open there doors and not even think a second about it. Dont these people have any respect for other peoples property....
Does anyone have any good suggestion on alarms???
Thinking of getting one of those alarms that notify you within a short distance that your alarm has been activated......
Any SUGGESTIONS....before I go ballistic.... on these F:censor:....idiots..!!!!

Taking up 2 spots gets your doors kicked in and your rims stolen, parking far away, someone will follow you, then bang their doors into yours :bigcry:

I know how you feel man, i got a nice gash in my door a couple of weeks ago.

I hear you. I got one about 1/2 the size in the LR door last week. Maybe an alarm isn't a bad idea. Now if they made one that would fire a shotgun out the side of the car...even better.

They just don't think about it or just plain don't care. I try to park away from the front door of the store or away from the "high traffic" areas to minimize the chance of a problem. This works 90% of the time. The other 10% will find some POS beater parked up next to my MM with 50 other spaces open. Normally however, most of these people will drive around the lot for an hour to get a space close to the door.

I wish that I wasn't so paranoid about the dings; but I walk around it to check each and every time I get into it.

If all possible I try to park beside a fairly decent car and I stay clear from minivans or any SUV's as they tend to carry kids who really don't know how to open a door properly, this is one topic that will keep up popping up due to some people who just don't give a crap......

My wife is that very statement...

However, what we have discovered is that since out Aviator is large, it tends to get hit quite often.

Atleast once a month I am buffing one of the four corners where someone turned early out of a parking space.

She and Gage are quite carefull opening their doors, but the public is ruthless in giving door and corner nicks to them.

I won't even post up all the damage others have done to my car.

Honestly I gave up a long time ago when I parked at a local mall at the last spot in the row, a good 200-300 ft away from the mall. Closest car was maybe 50 spots from me.

TELL ME WHY!?!?!?!?! I come out and some d-bag is parked next to my car and leaning on it while he is yapping away on his cell. I politely walked up and said "Get the F*** off my car now!", he looked at me the same way my dog does with cocking his head to the side as I guess he didn't understand plain spoken English.

Every time I see a door ding on my car, I inspect the vehicle parked next to me, eye up the Geometry of the door swing to confirm if it was that vehicle or not and then a nice quick foot stomp to the door to let them know what's up. My mom told about how she use to love wearing her clogs back in the day and doing that, I guess that's where I get it from lol.

My wife works at a hospital and medical center complex. That is even worse than the supermarket. Her Freestyle is only 2 years old and has dings and dents down both sides already. Some are obviously very hard door hits. On the odd occasion that we "have" to switch cars, I insist that she park in the farthest row in the back. She doesn't seem to notice the dings on her car. I have to point them out to her. But she knows that I have every mark on the MM located, measured, classified, categorized, and noted. Maybe that's why she doesn't like to use mine. :P

When Im out and about, I normally park far away (Drives my girlfriend crazy)...but at work, and this is a very respectable financial business, I have to take what parking spot is available...or park in a different building location and take a shuttle to my office (which I hate because then the car is really far away..[about 3 blocks]...)
Any of you guys who have alarms installed, do find this works as a deterent, or I guess, by the time the alarm is tripped, its to late-damgaed done...at least you can blow their FREAK'IN eardrums out ...)

I'd say take up 2 spots, but in Chicago is if you take up 2 spots you'll probably return to your car "keyed up" scratched everywhere purposely using a key from who knows.

That may work with some people....... but, I am a ***** magnet, the last time I did both those things, in the rain no less, wound up in a confrontation with the man and woman that didn't like my black lowered truck in 2 spaces.

He started the conversation by calling me an ********* that parked like that, I wont's say what happened, but lets say that I finished the conversation, and I bet he doesn't "man up" like that ever again, his old lady was the #1 instagator, I took his set of balls from her:eek:.

I don't mind if people take several spaces in a big parking lot well away from other cars if there are plenty of empty spaces. We usually try to park in the empty end of the parking lot to try and cut down on door dings. I drive up to the 8th floor of the garage I have to use for work just because there are still some empty areas up there for me to park a few spaces away from other folks. Some pull in and park next to me anyway.

Four years later and NO door dings here. How'd I do it? Simple. I use every tip in the book...everytime.

1. Park down on the 'five yard line' even when the lot is empty.

2. Park near a light pole/ wall/ landscape feature ect. People can only park to one side of your car and not both sides. This cuts the damage risk by a full 50%.

3. Use the dailly driver for those trips.

4. If you absolutely MUST park next to someone, park next to a van. (Sliding doors can't leave door dings).

5. Park diagonally in ONE space. Never straddle a line. That just pi$$es people off. My buddy always did that with his Jaguar and was always getting yelled at. This gets your doors away from other doors. The short doors on a subcompact usually can't reach a Marauder when parked diagonally in a single space.

6. Parking next to a nice car seldom works. Those cars are almost never there when I return (see tip #7).

7. Time. Don't leave it there for 10 hours. You might get hit in 10 minutes at WalMart. You WILL get hit if you let it sit there long enough. Get in, get out, and get away ASAP.

8. At Lowes or Home Depot park next to the rental trucks. They don't get moved very often.

There are no "rules" to avoid getting dings in the DMV (DC, MD, VA) area. Oh there is one...take the metro! I went to the grocery store sunday and parked by an island , the row b4 the vertical parking. I come out after getting nothing. Five minutes...a car is parker beside me...an old Lincoln towncar...I looked at that car and noticed the paint was beautiful so I guess he parked beside me to avoid bangs too.

Taking up two spaces dont work...I tried that yesterday...2 people parked beside as I waited in Pizza Hut...:shake:

Funny thing today...I ran into Home Depot to just pay on my bill. I parked in the fire lane! I remote started the car and it wa sok there for a few minutes. I wouldnt advise doing this but I think it works on door dings!:D

I park out in left field with the car away from everything else, but not far enough that I cant see the car. If Im stuck running a errand with the Marauder I make sure Im in and out. So far not a single door ding or scratch on the sides. When the car was a daily driver I had someone back into me and slightly spider web the rear bumper.

Hey man, I got a scratch similar to yours right in the same spot after coming out of a Harley dealer.. If I had seen it right after it happened and the car was still there, I would have kicked the side view mirror off the ****ers POS car.

Sorry about the marks. I get it too. I wa even parked in my own driveway out in the middle of nowhere and I am outside eating a sandwich next thing ya know I hear a pt pt pt then a ding and here comes my Lab. My next door neighbor was using my Lab Retriever for target practice, and he hit my car and put a ding in it, I went over to the side of the house and ther he is shooting at my siding, the goon. I don't shoot his dogs who come up on my deck and piss and defecate and eat my dogs food so what's up with his erratic behavior?????? all I'm saying most cars are going to get it from someone no matter how hard you try.
By the way I just told his parole officer what the guy was up to, I got the last laugh.

+1.....I always have used 2 spaces since some idiot smashed my front corner light in a parking lot. That said, I almost always take the farthest spot from the store, and I try to get the end space and the one beside it.

I wish that 10 years ago I could have gotten the patend on my idea but my financial partner back out bc of his wife. Another friend of ours didnt pay him back so she wouldnt let him loan anyone money. Anyway, it is out there but hard to find, the answer to all our problems. Auto video surveillance. The system I originally designed was a continous running but my problem was memory. It was expensive in 1998, but now it is dirt cheap and there are a few big companies that have run with it. The best thing is in some states you can actually prosocute based on just such evidence. Here is one site that does http://www.mobilewatchman.com/ . I hope it helps anyone that can afford it. Good news is that noone has my exact same idea but since I didnt buy the rights I dont get to be the first and besides I dont have the resources to make it work wo a lot of help. Good luck and sorry about the damage.

I forgot that guy who sells Oxiclean makes something that should fix that btw

Yeah as if the black paint Ford used wasn't bad enough, every idiot in town has to scratch our cars. I've yet to catch anyone doing anything to mine, and the dings I find are always from the car that left before I got back.

I remember one time back in college (when I was a lot more hot-headed) as I was walking up behind my truck to go home the guy parked next to me swung open his door right into mine. I waited for him to get out, smiled, and watched as he walked in the store. Then I kicked off his mirror and keyed "door dinger" into his trunklid as a warning to anyone else parking near him.

Now that I'm older I can see that was a bad idea.

Sure felt good though.........

I'm no fan of most lawyers, but when I was working in the SF bay area a few years ago, I heard on the radio about a lawyer who sued the prick who dinged his car, and won new paint and emotional damages as well.

I always park next to a divider or such to minimize potential damage, and at work require an underling to park on the other side. (yes I'm a mean boss)

those are my thoughts, too. With cf cards, SD cards with 8, 16 MB and even more, bluetooth cameras or wifi cameras with small pc in car and dash/back window camera setup recording only when motion alarm is set off to record only maybe 3/5 min recording similiar to security cameras used commercially..

I've been fairly lucky, but like others have said learned to always leave at least a couple of spaces between me and the other guy, plus I love lights and islands to park next to.

Last year I was sitting in my car in the lot when some ancient POS white Datsun parks right next to me. The driver gets out then opens the back door of his car, HARD, and slams right into my RR wheel well. Then closes the door and then opens it again!, WHANG!, into the same damned spot! Completely oblivious!

I got out and asked him what the F^%&! he thought he was doing! He had taken a big chunk of paint and primer right off the car, as he had hit the thin edge. He just shrugged and looked at me like "I" had the problem. I told him I figured $100 would cover the damage. His ugly wife snorted and I just told him pay up or I call the cops (although being in a parking lot I knew they couldn't do anything). He forked over $30 and said that was all he had. At least I was right there to catch the SOB. Unbelievable, that mindset.

dings , dents , scratches, yur all right, peoples don't care!
I was thinking one night, and i says to myself. self now if i could get my hands on some plastic and make the whole car the impact zone i figure tht would work, but then i would have to explain how this sort of thing could happen , then buy another MM. gossip travels fast so i would figure MM DON'T EVEN GET CLOSE
