I'm having a problem with my acclerator pedal sticking when I first start the car. The pedal gives some resistance when first pressed then lets go. This can be a real problem in parking lots. It doesn't seem to happen once I'm under way. Any suggestions? I've searched the posts and don't see that this topic has been discussed.

You check your throttle return spring? It may be the throttle cable is binding also.

Just make sure to use "throttle body cleaner" NOT brake cleaner.

I had to get my throttle cable replaced for that.

If you remove it from the intake as I mentioned, you may use whatever will clean it since you will not get any into the intake!!:shake:
I have cleaned mine with carb cleaner many times with it on the intake and it does a poor job at best.....it will stop the "twitchy accelerator" though.
Remove it and do it right........you will be surprised how gunked up the back side is!!

 I thought the throttle bodies have a coating on them that most cleaners would remove?

Interesting. It's been awhile since I worked in Ford service dept. They used to have a coating. When I get the chance (just for *****s and giggles) I'll check my pops '06 GM to see if it's got a coating.

The sticking of my accelerator only occurs with outside temperatures under 30-35 degrees F, and it is all the time from an idle position. Is it the throttle body gunked up or something else needing lubrication?

Possibly the throttle stop screw could be adjusted to keep the butterfly valves from closing as far? Maybe they're getting stuck? Wife's car has a slight "sticking" feel when moving the throttle from fully closed position, not a big deal to me unless she notices it and complains!

Had the exact same problem with Phoebe...spent a few minutes with a can of throttle body cleaner and "wallah"... no more sticking. :D

mine has always "stuck" a little, from an idle, but it just takes a tap of your toe, to un-stick it, but as stated it can be a pain. BTW, the first week I had it, I wasn't use to it yet, and at a traffic light it chirped the tires, with a LEO right behind me. When I explained, he said he had the same problem with his stang.

The exposed area of the throttle where the cable and springs hook up tends to build up deposits and binds the throttle. My neighbor had the same problem with his throttle body on his Ford Explorer except his bound up totaly from sitting for several months so needed the spray and pliers for leverage to make it move again to work it free.
A little WD-40 sprayed right where the throttle body linkage meets the actual throttle body housing. Then while the car is off work it in with your hand moving the linkage and spray a little more untill it is totaly free and you will be good to go.

Had same problem, clean throtal bod
I was just getting ready to post almost the exact same question...
My throttle sticks closed first thing in the morning - only when it's cold outside.
I figured it was the idle adjustment screw too but after reading this, I may try cleaning the TB as well as lubricating the linkage first.
Thanks.
oh - here's your Toyota joke...
