How many members are heading to Texas for the Meet? I have noticed a couple of people on the list so far, but I think it might be a good idea to find out exactly how many are going, and make some plans to get together when we head down, an plan accordingly. Please reply here if you are going, and want to hook up and drive down together, set up the route, where to sleep over halfway down, etc.

Hey Dave,
I did a MapQuest search for your best route, it directs you to Ennis, through Chicago. Here's a link that may help?
http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&2n=Ellis&ct=NA&1y=US&1a=&1p=&1c=Detroit&1s=MI&1z=&1ah=&2y=US&2a=&2p=&2c=Ennis&2s=TX&2z=&2ah=&lr=2&x=12&y=14
If you like these directions, you're welcome to hook up with Zack, Mark[N40GL] and I. We'll be leaving early on the 17th, looking to lay over one night in West Memphis Arkansas, where we'll be hooking up with BigDogJim and his East Coast tribe. There's a Red Roof Inn at the junction of I-55/57 and I-40 we'll be staying at, plenty of rooms left.
From there, on Thurs. the 18th, it's a few hours to Shreveport, where we'll hook up with TAF and the South East tribe, and press on to Ennis, arriving late Thursday afternoon.
Again, you and anyone from MI is welcome to hook up with us. Anyone looking to do so, please drop me an e-mail at SergntMac@aol.com, for places and times. Nothing etched in stone yet, but the cement is drying on some things.
Anyone interested, please let me know? If not, have a safe journey and we'll see y'all in Ennis!

I'd love to hook up and convoy with some other MM's, but I just couldn't justify more than 2 vacation days for the trip.
I'm leaving from work in Dearborn on Thursday the 18th. Staying Thursday night in Mount Vernon, Il. Up at the crack of dawn on Friday, the goal is to roll into the "registration" in Ennis right at 6:00PM. The return trip has a LONG day of driving on Monday so I can be back at it (work) Tuesday morning.
I am totally psyqued (sp?) to meet up with everyone in Texas and see the goin's on...
If anyone from Michigan happens to have a similar schedule, let me know. Maybe we can hook up.

Dave, when are you thinking about leaving? I would love to go, it's one of those once in a life time sort of stuff and I just can't burn up all my vac time! Maybe I'll hook up with Fast4Door.

There has been a lot of overtime at my place, so my comp time bank is well stocked! I really haven't set anything in stone yet, but just blanked out thursday to tuesday. We need to figure out which way to go, how long it will take so we know when to leave to make the best of things such as where to spend the night for the halfway point. Lets see how this thread goes, make a list of who wants to go, trade numbers and have a get together for the details and a couple of pops.
Might be a good call to start figuring out where we all are in relation to each other. I am in Macomb County, Clinton Township. I know others are from Livonia, Dearborn, Detroit, Mt. Clemens, Shelby. So when voiceing your interest, throw out where you are from so we know what we are dealing with... I also will probably have an extra room reserved at the Host hotel that I won't need, so I will auction it off to the highest bidder on ebay! But seriously, If anyone needs a room there...let me know.

I'm in Royal Oak, so if I do decide to go for sure, I am probably gonna leave Thursday morning and be back on Monday late and be back to work on Tuesday! Is there anything that goes on Sunday and if yes till what time? Anyone going alone from MI? How much are these rooms? Perhaps some of us are willing to split a room to cut cost, afterall gas is going to hammer all of us! Its about a 22 hours ride to TX! Get together for all of us going down is an excellent idea, you know for a "Pop"

Before the magical internet, or, MapQuest, I trusted some really old stuff. Plain old paper maps, pencil and paper. Later on, a yellow highlighter, and a calculator made it all a bit easier. I was rarely disappointed.
I don't know if the computer that computes routes for any of the map sites really knows what's best for any of us, or, not. So, I did some plain old CMC/AAA type routing myself, and that says that regardless of your Detroit specific launch, the I-xx routes available to you (and me too) put us both in the West Memphis Arkansas arena as an ideal overnight stay for a clean and safe drive to Ennis.
Whether it's Chicago, or Detroit, the routes come together at the I-55/I-57 merge, and it's I-55 after that. I-55 meets I-40 in West Memphis Arkansas, a 500 some mile trip from the Windy, maybe 600 mile journey from the Motor?
If I were any of you, I wouldn't waste time driving over to Chicagoland just to pick up I-55/57, as MapQuest suggests. I would play the southwestern angle as long as I could and drive through Indy. But, after Indy, you're heading east again, so, one thing is for sure...You better plan on getting to I-55, and then on to I-40.
By the time you reach the I-55/I-40 junction, you should feel like you're ready to lay down a while. Why not plan for that? Pick another motel if you wish, but hook up with us all in the AM of the 18th, and ride on into Ennis by dinner? Works for me...
Don't take my word on this, drop a note to BigDogJim here, one who's driven every block of side street this country posts a route sign on. Ask him how you should drive, he's the man to ask. I'd follow his direction anytime, in fact I already do. If you do hook up with us, the BigDog will be running things out of West Memphis, so, best get acquainted now, eh?
BTW...TAF...Remember me? SergntMac@aol.com ? Can you hear me now? What's the story for Shreveport? Got an intersection picked out yet? A Crackerwhatever for us get some lunch and drop some pee at before invading Ennis? I hate treasure hunts and time-distance ralleys, K?
What ever y'all decide, y'all MI peeps are welcome to join up with us Windy City cars, no sweat, K?

As always too too funny! I have used lots of mapping programs over the years and found this to be true. No two are alike? Why I give up! Not into programming. I sure they can account for the error? Blame it some one else?

You might want to take a serious look at going thru Memphis and Shreveport---the construction around Little Rock is MURDER---took me two hours to get from I-30 to I 40 a couple months ago

Does anyone know if this constuction is still there?
Any info would be appreciated. I'm trying to find a reasonable back-up route, but Little Rock is almost the only game in town...

The I-30, I-40 work in the Little Rock area will be completed in late 2004---there are at least 6 4-lane bridges to be built and they are widening all in and out roads with severly restricted traffic--if there is an accident, the roads are tied up for hours--I left 20 mi East of the I-40/I-30 by-pass at 5:00AM on the advbice of a state trooper who test drove my MM--got thru O K and arrived home in Fort Worth before 11 AM --on a Tuesday
