I was actually getting around on a skateboard today and took it to the L train, and from the train. That's over half a mile of skateboard riding and it's a lotta fun getting through traffic here in Chicago. I'm just a little fed up with gas right now and have some more bills to pay so I have to be cheap once again. The funny thing is it got me a free ride home in my buddys car since everyone always depends on me.

Mine is a real piece... it always moves to the left so I have to balance on it the wrong way to keep it straight, I think it needs new trucks or something, but it has a Chevelle on the bottom so thats cool.

So who actually uses or had used a skateboard to get around town?

Used to, 20 years ago. I'd probably look a little silly now.

Back in 1985...8 years old at the time! 1987 was my wife's year at 10, but she was already surfing at the age of 6!

BMX racing and tricks at its best (atleast for 1986) with the lovely Lori Loughlin at probably around 18. All i can say is i was 13 at the time and i can relate to it.

Oh and yes i used to hold onto car bumpers, everybody did back in the back to the future days! What they didn't teach you in the movie was avoiding pot holes. Now thats a big hurt!!!

I was part of the first group of skateboard riders in about 64-65 when we transitioned from making our own out of a board and skate wheels to actual storebought ones! The wheels back in 65 really sucked. If you hit any tiny pebble, it would stop and you wouldn't. I got good at leaping off when stopped this way. I used it alot around 5th grade. I can still ride one, sort of.

I made my own started with metal wheel skates a piece of 2x6 and a metal milk crate, any one remember those? Then in the late 70's I used a pair of old rink skates and a piece of 2x6. Did not do any traveling with them, just had fun!

You guys are making me wake up old brain cells. Does anyone remember Super skates, no key needed. Well when they finally fell apart, they became a customized skate board. We lived on a hill so it was the ride of death, because half way down was an intersection and it was a 50/50 chance we stopped there(ah, the days of being indestructible). One thing I vividly remember is that the vibration created would just about rattle your fillings loose. If I tried that today, they would put me in a nice white jacket with really long sleeves :D .

Yes... That is a classic 80's flick. Watch Gleaming the Cube while you're at it. Tony Hawk as the Pizza Hut delivery guy is awesome...

Any old sketers would have to remember "Thrasher" with the daggers as a skater gang.
