Gonna be in Seattle at a conference for a couple of days in 2 weeks. Wife's gonna get to come to this one, so we're coming early so we can sightsee a little. Staying right next to the University, since that's where the conference is.

What are the sights I shouldn't miss?

See if there is still a Boeing tour, it's worth your time, if the Patriot Act didn't end it. Microsoft, the "Needle", Boise Cascade, I think.

I was in Seattle last year to attend Scott's install party. Seattle is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Seeing the white capped mountains while driving around is breathtaking. I went there without Paula and promised I would take her there someday.

While I was there, Duncan and Scott took me to the Boeing museum. If you are into aviation, you've gotta go. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The aviation history in that place is pretty amazing.

Duncan and Mrs. Teamrope took me to the Space Needle. What a view. Really enjoyed that. Had dinner with the Teamropes on the piers on the water front.

You will not run out of things to do. My recommendation, get a tour guide like I had!

WOW! You guys hit most of the good sights before any of the EMC crew had a chance! :D

We have got to try to get a meet together while you are here. :)

PM or post up the dates so maybe we can try to gather some of us up for a meet. This is a great time of the year in Seattle and if your timing is right Sea Fair and Fleet Week may be happening with unlimited Hydros on Lake Washington, Blue Angels and who knows maybe a Boeing Tanker plane doing a barrel roll for the crowds!

Oh PS - I think Claude meant Scott's (BruteForce) install. He hasn't done mine ... yet... :D

Brian, go north a little to Edmonds, a great little artsy town. Stop at Paolis Sub Shop and get some of the best subs on the planet, visit Semantics Gallery and give our love to Larry Jeffers( you will want to buys something) and then take the ferry to Kingston. Take 104 to 101. Stop and visit the nice folks at the welcome center in Sequim to say hello and get directions to Dungeness NWR. Walk the sand spit 6 or 7 miles to the lighthouse. Go west on 101 to Port Angeles, go south in the Olympic National Park to Hurricane Ridge and talk to God at his house. Then go west again on 101 to Kalaloch Lodge stopping at each and every beautiful spot on the way. Make sure Ruby Beach is one of them. Stay at Kalaloch for the 2 days and skip the conference. You will be better for it and have an adventure you will never forget. Kalaloch is where God would go on vacation if he could spare the time off. If this won't work just go anywhere from Seattle but I recommend Widbey Island...you will love walking the bridge over Deception Pass.. If you have time the whale watch cruise out of Anacortes will let you play with Orcas, show you Eagles and otters, seals and Minke and others along with all of the San Juan Islands. A bargain, pretty as hell and great fun. You will love your time anywhere in that area, even if don't spend a minute in Seattle. Bring your rain jacket, your camera and your binoculars. :) Dennis

I arrive around noon on Sat the 19th, have the rest of that day free and the whole next day. Monday morning is free, the conference starts the afternoon of Monday the 21st and opening reception goes into the evening. Tuesday is conference all day, then depart in the evening.

Unfortunately I'm all flanged up next week end.
Given the time you have available I would reiterate the highlites in the previous posts.
Space Needle - http://www.spaceneedle.com/
Pike Street Market - http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/frameset.asp?flash=false
Boeing Museum of Flight - http://www.museumofflight.org/Display.asp?Page=AboutUs
Pioneer Square Underground Tour - http://www.undergroundtour.com/

Most of those could be fit in a half day chunks. If you wanted to try to catch a ferry and see stuff from the water You might want to try the Bainbridge Island Ferry Sunday Am - http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/schedules/current/index.cfm?route=sea-bi
You can walk on the ferry (3/4 Mile to Pubs) on or take your car (might have to wait in line) for about $20 more. There is a main street with shops and in the Marinas a couple of small restuarant pubs with outside decks looking over Eagle Harbor for a lunch break on a nice day. The Pubs are;
Harbour Public House - http://www.harbourpub.com/
Doc's Marina Grill - http://www.docsgrill.com/
I like the Harbour House but if they are full Doc's is fine as well.
It's a little touristy but Tillicum Village on Blake Island might be something of interest on a nice day. It is reached by boat from Pier 55 on the Seattle waterfront - http://www.blakeislandcruises.com/tillicum.html

Well that's all I can come up with for now. There are tons of good restaurants but that's kind of subjective and depends on how mobile and much $$ you want to spend. If you were able to do half the stuff above you would have one full week end!
Good luck and enjoy. The weather will be good next week end!! :)

Got time to drive two hours north?

My original plan was to be there all week and make a trip to Vancouver, but work requirements hosed up that plan. Since time is now limited I'll probably stay around the Seattle area instead of making a road trip.

Really wanted to get over there, I recently learned a bit about my family history and that's where my Grandfather went when he left North Carolina. He worked in the logging industry until he broke his leg, then he went to work at an ice cream factory and met the woman who would be my Grandmother. They later moved back to North Carolina and then to Tennessee where he started his own ice cream companies using what he had learned in Vancouver.

We will be doing something Sunday.... don't know if it will be a run to Mt Rainier or the museum of flight.... but we're gonna do something. Who's in?

We kind of enjoyed the Rock 'n Roll museum. Found that the downtown area closed up pretty early and we actually were a bit disappointed. We liked Portland ,Oregon better. It might be fairer to compare Seattle to San Francisco and in that case S.F. far surpasses.IMO. Maybe I would have had a better time if I'd checked with you guys first!:)

We'll forgive you this time. ;)

We are meeting at the McDonald's in Lakewood at the intersection of I-5 and HWY 512, 10 AM. I believe the address is 10417 PACIFIC HWY SW
TACOMA, WA 98499.

From there we will hit Solo Point and Mt Rainer. Dirtydog, Bruteforce & the Teamropes are in so far.

Today we rode the Ducks (WW2 vintage amphibious vehicles) for a tour, about an hour on land and 1/2 hour on the water. Had a blast and got to see some sights instead of having to watch traffic. There was a festival at the Seattle Center (world's fair park) with about 4 different stages with live bands. Lots of people, food vendors, and crafts vendors. Went up in the Space Needle, saw a guy propose to his girlfriend. Took some pics, Mt Rainier was visible (supposedly only happens abot 100 days/yr. Cut it short and got some dinner then checked in to the hotel, been up and going since 3:00 AM Eastern time.

Thanks a lot to Teamrope and Mrs. Teamrope for spending the day showing us around yesterday. We had a great time going up to see Mt Rainier and spending time together. Dinner was excellent, too. Y'all are great folks, it's not every day we meet people who will take a whole day out of their personal schedule to show somebody around. Your MM runs great, we enjoyed riding around in it instead of the rental car. The flame job is sweet. I'll be sure and upload the pics of it with Mt Rainier in the background. Sorry about the rock chip to the windshield. Today we went to the Pike Place Market and had some chowder along with other goodies. Gotta go get signed in for the conference now, so the fun time is pretty much finished.

We had a very enjoyable day as well. Dinner was great, and the company even better.
I got the pictures I took downloaded, but haven't had a chance to re-size and post them yet.
I hope you and Mrs Fordnut have a safe trip home and looking forward to next time.
