I was thinking the other day and how long I had my Painted Turtle named Mack and he's been around for about 14 years now. He's seen all the other family pets come and go. Seen me go to 4 different schools and grow a little taller and that turtle is still doing just fine. I think they live to be 35-40 years old in the wild, so I have no idea how long a well taken care of turtle will do.

What is the longest living pet you have/had going?

we have lots of wild box turtles around here, and when they are active we have people who go out of their way to run them over, it really makes me mad.what could be more inoffensive than a box turtle? I have caught some that have 30 rings on their plates, so I assume they are about that old.

my rott/lab mix is 14, and I assume that his time is quickly coming, he was poisoned by neighbor kids in California, and is now blind, but gets around pretty well for 14. he hates the thunder storms, so we call him a fur-chicken. he winters indoors as well although he is an outside dog. he was self-housetrained at 11 yrs old, one time and he understood how its gotta be. before that he was always an outside dog.

My cat died last fall at the ripe old age of 21. He was rescued from the streets by APL, we then adopted him at approximately 3 years old, and he lived with us for 20 years. When we called the APL to report his passing, there was no one there that worked there when he was adopted. He was a great cat, and is still missed.

It makes me sick how cruel some people can be!

Grandpa Gilbert had two cats age well.

A male orange Tabby @ 23 years.
Female domestic long hair @ 21

Both struggled with Arthitus and dimensia for their last year or so.

Good gened cats should normally age to 18 or so quite well.

He has two South American Conures that are both 27 years old and vey active.

My ol' buddy Stout made it to 14 before we had to put him down. Slipped a disk in his back climbing up the back porch stairs. Having him put to sleep is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

Tortoise in some areas live to be 150+ years old. The oldest known creature, not plant, is known to be of the turtle family. But we don't know how long the Dinosaurs lived.

I dare anybody to read "rescuing sprite" without cracking a few tears.

I might be a the record holder for a gold fish.........Got him in summer of 96 and lived in his small fish tank until July of 08. He must have jumped out of the tank a dozen times too. I thought he was dead every time I'd find him laying on the floor. I'd put him back in the tank and away he'd go.

He's a beauty! We've had 2 cats live to be 19. One of our beloved Dachshunds , Tally ho, lived to be 16 and it wasn't nearly long enough. When she was 10 we got a second Dachshund, Jaime, who broke our hearts when she died at just 5 years old. We miss them so much. Our lives are currently shared with 2 adorable Dachunds (sisters), Belle and Violet, both 4 years old and my boy ,Buddy. He's a Miki. (Papillion, Japanese Chin, Maltese mix) 3 years old. Hoping to get alot of miles out of this crowd! It hurts too much to lose them.

I just found out my first pet, who died when he was 10 or 11 was poisoned.

He was a Black Lab.

I knew he got sick at one point but I didn't know that was what killed him.

I was 5 at the time.

My cat is currently around 16. I got her when I was living in Moscow, from an American fellow who moved to the UK from Russia. The cat was 1 y.o. when I took her home. Since then, she came with me wherever I lived : in SC, in Turkey, in Belgium and now in Quebec for the last 4 years.

She sleeps every night on my bed. She is the most sweet and faithful creature I know. And I hope she will stay alive for many more years.
