Help with Bigscreen TV

Hopefully some one on here knows about fixing these.... I have a 60 inch Zenith LCD TV.....my problem is that gradually the screen was turning blue...It started with a small blue spot and now covers the whole screen. I had a tv repair co. come out and look at it.....they were there for a whole five minutes......they turned on the tv...said yep its blue....then charged me 85 bucks for a service call.....called me about 4 days later and said that it would be 900 bucks to fix it....now I have searched with the only results of some one else having the same problem and that it cost about the same price to fix. I am wondering if this is a part I can buy myself and install myself....

I doubt it>.Best to have the professional do this. How old is the TV? Is it the model that uses a single bulb. If it is not the thin TV you might want to look into replacing it as these model are pretty inexpensive to but now. People are not buying a lotof them as they all want the shinny ones. Its a 2003. I believe it has the one bulb.

I would look into the price of a new TV before I repaired that one. The price for a new bulb is 250.00 or more. Compare prices and make your decision. Fix old TV and something else may go bad right after the repair. Buy a new one and get a warranty.

Ouch, only 5 yrs. old! Paid a small fortune for the original, now gotta spend a smaller fortune to repair or a larger amount to replace.

The only good thing is that the price of those sets have dropped a lot since he bought it. Thats why he may be better off to replace it. :(

A 60" LCD is still gonna be mucho expensivo.

If it works on RGB I would check to see if you have bad or piss-poor cables going to it. They will make a difference.

I've had LCD projectors go.

If it is a small blue dot or many of them it can be dust in the prism.

If it is all over the screen you will need a new prism or LCD block. Expensive. If it is not on warranty buy a new one now.

Assuming you have it all hooked up right.

When the LCD block goes, it goes and there is nothing you can do.

This is a Projection tv yes?

If it is direct view, then it could be a software issue.

A picture of what you are talking aobut would be really helpful.

Pick one of these they are all great.

Don't go for rear projection.

A front projector is a good idea too, Panasonic makes some great ones, Sony's have a bad design on their latest ones, they get dust in the prism and you get dots on the screen. Hard to clean. I've also had buggy Sony high end projectors. (business models) they don't work or they crack up and die. They do however work great, when they work. Next projector will be a Panasonic for me.

Yeah...I am in the market now for a new one....I like the sony but I will have to down size a bit.....prolly going with a 50" but not plasma....cant use it for gaming...screen burn.
