The car that should have been. And maybe if the Maruader lived to 2006 it may have been, but we will never know.
It would have been perfect with a 6 inch rear seat stretch.
uh . . . what the hell are you talking about?

I think he is referring to the Panther cars that had a slight stretch like Presidential Town cars and such - right?

NYC taxi's are stretched approx. 6 inches.

Why would a 6" longer version sell better than what we have now?

Someone do a clone, that would be cool.

Six inches is the difference between Oooooh and Ouch. :banana2:
Sorry just had to do it.
Seriously though an extended wheelbase panther is awesome. There is too little rear leg room for our cars. Even the regular wheelbase TC has more room than the CV/MM/MGM's.

Thats because towncars are weird!, actually its just because they are used more for limo's.
I can agree rear leg room is way to little for the size of our car.

I think the regular (not the L) Town cars have a 3" longer wheelbase than our cars.

they make the Grand Marquis L for export, and they made a P71 with the stretch for about 6 months. by the time the word got out, they stopped offering it. the taxis are available in this length. why they dont offer the GM version here in the states, is beyond me, they build it at STAP with the other panthers, they still offer the floor shift for export too.
idiots, no wonder the stock price is under $5.

They still make a CV Taxi and Town Car in a 6" stretch. They used to offer LWB CVPIs too but I dont see them on the fleet page now. I do agree a streched MM would be pretty cool. If youve ever ridden in one of the NYC taxis you will know how much room is in back on the longer version as compared with the regular. Ford mystifies me sometimes. Here is something nice, off the shelf and they dont sell it to the general public.

Again I ask why would a 6" longer MM sell better?
More HP and some lighter colors would have made all the differance in the world:)

Get together and make a fleet buy.

I can buy fleet, but only a strippo taxi platform is available to the US market. they build a nice version here, they just wont sell it here.

the longer wheelbase would ride better, possibly handle better, and have impressive rear leg room (where 3/4th of the other occupants fit)

Most of my passengers are 5'3 or less 6 inches would
make little if any difference to them. More HP would
get me in there sooner! I buy a car for me, the one
that is in it the most! Selfish I know..

my dealer was under the impression that the X-100 was coming sooner or later, and while they sold quite a few Marauders, many people were waiting for the supercharger version that was promised early on. the four colors were ok, I don't mind that, the de-contenting for 04 was noticed by customers, and the fact that the 302 horsepower didn't get to the ground very inefficiently was noticed, 4.10s should have been a factory option

And 99% of people and 100% of dealership sales agents do not know that the High Stall Torque converter is there or how to use it.

Plus a factory supercharged model, plus a convertable, plus a lower MSRP wouldn't have hurt either.

More HP and some lighter colors would have made all the differance in the world:)Don't know if the extra length would have boosted sales, but for those of us with extra tall men in our lives who like to drive the Marauder when we go out with friends, it might mean that someone could sit behind" Mr. Man" types. Right now we just strap them down over a fender. PS Which lighter colors would you have liked to see........ and would you have ordered one?:) I totally agree that more HP would have had an impact on sales. Provided they actually advertised the car!

Having limited choices is great. It gives you the same starting point as everyone else to customize your perfect ride and to get ideas from others for future add ons. I for one love how mine is turning out (these things are never a finished project). Sure everybodys tastes are different, but were all representing a unique rare vehicle and we are all proud gear heads that have the same interest in our "baseline" rides.

It is essentially a Automatic clutch drop.
Hold your brake, bring your revs up to 2.2-2.4K more with a better converter, and wait for the light. Then let go of the brake.
Ordinary cars will like a manual, break, but our Marauders are designed not too.
It eliminates the lag you get when you take off.
THere are other flash techniques but that is the basics.

The P70 Crown Vic was 6" stretched. Considering the size of our cars, the rear legroom ain't so great. Not that I ever carry passengers, it might have been nice.

You kidding me? My MM barly fits in my garage now. When I park it next to my Fox stang I cant' even get out of the car.
I will say my mom has a 745iL and my god the back is roomy. But watching her park that car his HILARIOUS!!!

One thing that hurt the MM sales, is how oversize and weight the car is. Adding more size and weight, would not have helped it. All the road test reviews said "too much bulk".

All the road test reviewers did not make use of the HSTC. The Marauder is barely more wieght than most of the muscle cars around.
P70 Crown vic base and making a Marauder clone might be an idea.
hmm....
