well.... over my lunch break at the stealership, i put the MM up on the lift. I pulled the front wheels and started the red caliper painting.

I only got 2 quick coats on, but MAN OH MAN does it look 100x cooler!

I have been waiting/ forgot about the caliper paint I got 6months ago, tomorrow the backs get a coat, and then Friday they get finished.

Dont know if i need to post pics cause its nothing new in the mod list for marauders, but i wanted to share my enjoyment about it.

What kit did you use? I'd like to get red for my car actually

duplicolor.... kinda runny when it you first start, but you get used to it quick. Not hard to do at all, im cheating and just painting the top/outsides of the calipers.

How did you prep the calipers?

Please dont tell us a little shot of brake cleaner!

there is an aresol can of cleaner/degreaser that dries in about 3 seconds included in the kit. i did that, then brass brushed, then cleaner again

I don't get why this definite Ricer Mod is so popular on this car. If you don't have red aftermarket brembo calipers, why paint the stock calipers that every other car already has, to make them look aftermarket? Appearance only mods that give the appearance of speed parts are definite rice.

Probably because the OEM calipers are dull and boring (mine are multicolored for some reason) and not everyone can afford performance rotors and calipers, so they jazz up the ones they have.

My calipers look hideous, and that's what I look at every time I see my car, along with the foggy headlight!

Besides don't you think the calipers would like like crap with the new cryo coated power slot rotors?

Paint them black if the corrosion is really an appearance issue. Red painted stock calipers on a black car, that were not red from the factory, is so rice.

So why are painting stock calipers "rice" and upgrade that are another color "cool"

Rice - is a play on words for Race.

Rice is when you put things on the car or modify things on the car that do not have any pure value other then aesthic or to give the apperance of speed. For example, a double deck spoiler, a spoiler in general if not factory equipped. Chances are a MM, Honda, or whatever does not require that downforce generated by the spoiler - assuming you bought one that was real. If not it is just a radio antenna.

Painting brakes red or yellow or any color other then stock is an attempt to allude to the fact that they are after market. It is smokes and mirrors or a cheap way to get to what you might believe an after market brake is all about.

This is what rice is. Rice is NOT any import car. Supras are from Japan but can run with Camaro and Firebirds stock(if Twin Turbo - just like if the Maro is V8...). Once modified it can run with Vipers and vettes (do a youtube search or go to the supra forums).

Now if a supra is dressed up like a donkey fast and the furious then yes it has rice outside but race inside :).

I hate when people choose to use labels and use them incorrectly.

I find that on American forums any import is called rice regardless of what it has. And on import forums all American cars are heavy, slow or not that quick, and cant handle.

Rivarly is one thing ignorance is another.

To be honest I really don't care if people think its ricerish or not, I just spent 150 buck on pads and I'm about to spend around 600 on rotors, I was gonna get calipers but chose not to when I saw how much they are, so instead of putting disgusting old calipers on all brand new stuff I decided to just paint them, if that falls into the rice category, so what!! I'm on my way to pepboys to get all the stick on vents to match my calipers! Lol

I dont consider that a "ricer" mod at all. They really accent the wheels especially on a black car with polished rims.

One other thing I would recommend is getting the caliper paint kit in black and painting the rotor hats on the rear rotors. Having the red painted calipers with rusty rotor hats drove me crazy. Finally got my rotor hats painted, too.

Hey Blackened300a... I couldn't help but notice in your close-up of the brakes that your rotor on the left there should be on the right... The slots and cross-drilled holes are supposed to move counter-rotational. At least that's what I've read, and it was in the diminutive documentation that came with mine. Not ragging on you (or trying to change the subject), just thought I'd point it out.

Show pics when you're done. I was thinking of re-doing mine in blue and I'd like to see how it looks. My prep work was insufficient and the black paint I put on mine last summer (G2 kit as well) is coming off and rust is poking through.

I painted the centers of both my front and rear rotors with leftover black when I did mine. It looks great!

I did mine in red with the Duplicolor kit and love it, but yes you're right about the rusty rotor hats on the back. I went and painted them flat black.

I also thought opposite. I have seen cars with them facing the way I installed the rotors. Don't matter much at this point anyways, those slotted rotors are long gone.

wow, some people really like to push their opinions onto other people.

Well i got 3 coats on all calipers, I love it, I didnt realize till it was done, it really helps set off the whole car! I will go back and do the rotor hats soon eric, I really just wanted to get this done for a local car show.

Its awsome, I think i will use the leftover paint and do the Dodge Ram calipers.

I say to anyone thinking of doing it, GO FOR IT.

I wouldn't reuse any of it, it is epoxy and won't last more than a couple hours and be durable enough for trusting on anything else, toss it. The next time you do this take off the calipers and do all the surface to resist peeling. And i can not stress enough....Quality and longetivity is only as good as your prep. That red pops and looks awesome even at 35mph! great choice in color against the black.

I see nothing wrong with painting the calipers as long as you don't paint on a aftermarket company logo, it's putting these on that is "rice"

My .02: Since "Rice" is a term mostly given to the Asian Imports, cuz they love to dress up their cars , and most of the stick-ons, add-ons, neons, bling-ons, are from China ( thank you inexpensive labor), we relate to rice that way. a few mods on American cars may seem Rice, it's a matter of opinion. Caliper, rotor hat, painting may seem rice. does painting it black make it rice? painting it yellow? dang, that's a thin line with blue and red, but like stated above, you can rice a TT Supra, Nissan GT-R, or Evo X for that matter, but them boys can back it up real quick. most guys here mod their US-Canadian MM's, but can draw the line on fake fender vents and Fart cans. There's tradition with the MM, so those emblems with the Race flags look OK to some, but others prefer not to go there. the Cobra emblems are along the same line.
Look at the critique we gave the member with the 24's and Donk look, till he actually went back the stock wheels and everything was A-OK. I prefer the off-the-showroom look with no new added badges or stickers. yes my calipers and rotor hats are black, ( part experimental with the G2 kit), but it sure looks alot better than the stock zinc/rust coating. and my Kooks definitley don't sound stock, but that's the way it is...and I'm starting to drive it like my Dad and Grandfather used to drive their cars, with some ease.....( no 4.10's, no tune, no suspension, better MPG's)

Are my brakes gonna be considered stock? The only thing that's gonna be stock about them is the calipers. It didn't even cross my mind that painting the calipers would be considered ricish, I'm really not trying to create the illusion of high performance calipers, I just want them to look neat and clean, but I do respect the opinions of all the members of this board! There's a lot knowledgable people here.
