For R&T's 2004 Model look-ahead, the Mercury section main picture is a black MM. Tells of the new tranny, dual knock sensors, 11.25 inch torque convertor.

No mention of new colors or of anything I haven't seen mentioned here already.

What you cite as "changes" for the '04 MM is true. May be not more that that, except for the discontinuation of blue, and announcement for the red.

I thought that we already have an 11" torque converter? But ofcourse I'm going w/a 9.5" after market one anyway......

Isn't it that issue though that just mentions the Marauder under Grand Marquis, rather than giving it's own stand alone space?

then that would explain the claim of an 11" converter being a change since the Grand Marquis and Crown Vics(excluding the police Interceptors) always had a 12" one up to and including the 2003 models.

The article didn't expressly say the torque convertor was new.

Dig up, y'all:

In R&T for October they are listing 2004 model cars from each manufacturer. Mercury got 1/3rd of a page. It covers Mercury models: Grand Marquis, Marauder, and Sable.

The little blurb for Mercury is under a picture of a black MM, and daring life damaging litigation by blantanty duplicating the article in it's entirety, here it is:

MERCURY. A new heavy-duty 4R75W 4-speed automatic transmission, along with new dual knock sensors in the engine for improved low end response , is deisgned to give the Mercury Marauder a bit more kick off the line in 2004. The new transmission, which features Teflon seals and needle bearings, uses an 11.25-in.-high stall speed torque convertor. The result is quicker shifts as well as the ability to kick down into 1st gear at higher speeds. The 4.6-liter V-8 is tuned to produce 302 bhp and 318 lb.-ft of torque. Traction control is now standard. Meanwhile, the Sable gets a subtle facelift that features a new grille, new front fascia and head- and tailamp treatment.

I think I already hear the Hachette Filipacchi goons trampling through my flower beds.

a different transmission, and a Torque converter w/a higher stall speed........interesting. It just so happens that I've previously decided to go w/the Stallion converter which has a 3000RPM stall speed. I wish that article mentioned what RPM the stall speed was at for the 2004 MM's.

I think when they say higher stall speed they mean higher than in a non-Marauder, not necessarily higher than in a 2003 Marauder

funny, this is what the mercury site says about the transmission for the 2003 Marauder:

4-Speed Automatic Transmission
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a heavy duty 4-speed automatic transmission with a brazed 11 1/4-inch 160K high-stall speed torque converter and 6000 RPM WOT shift speed.
