After reading reading this thread (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=45484), I picked up a set of P71 taillamps and had them tinted by that vendor to give the Marauder a more sinister look.
The results:

At a car cruise on Saturday, two of the local Mustang owners who dabble in photography and snapped some pics of the big Merc.

More pics were taken. I just need to wrestle them from the photographers. Plus, more photoshoots are scheduled, with models.

Dang, I want to get my MM to look that nice someday. I need to know your secerets! I was going to give my tail lights the S55 treatment, but this has me thinking now... would it be legal to get the S55 treatment and then have the slits tinted like this? If so I might have to do that. Lookin good!

Thanks, gents.
They turned out darker than I anticipated, but they've grown on me and I am quite satisfied.

I'd venture to say that it is illegal to tint your taillights & headlights in most states. The S-55 treatment isn't tinting so it wouldn't be illegal.
Before you ask what the S-55 treatment is.............. use the search button.

Fortunatley for those of us in the Bluegrass State, it is hardly a concern. You'd be amazed for what passes as "roadworthy" vehicle around here.

Contact that vendor. He's quite reasonable given the quality of the work.
Thanks for the compliments, everyone.

Glad you like his work, they look great. What shade did you go with? Is he still offering different levels?

That I do. I had him tint the P71 taillamps medium, plus one extra coat.

I'm still on the fence with tinting the tails on my MM. At least tinting them THAT much. A little TOO black in the rear-end for me.
Besides... stock as hell looking = people assume LEO and get out of my way!

How about you provide a pic of one capable of doing 30 over the posted limit? :D
In my state, Louisiana, it's not the fact that the tail lights are tinted it's the visibility distance, 1000 feet.

Had one of the painters in my shop do this for me. Does look good, just added some "color" to clearcoat and scuffed then sprayed the lamps. Don't know if it was black paint or tint, didn't ask. Did notice that with my light blue car, the darkness wasn't as bad, yours is probably darker than anticipated because of the black around the lamp not allowing as much light as with my car. Also had him do my headlamps and corner lamps, no tint film for a LEO to harass me over, has the SAE stampings still on them, can claim they are VA legal if I try hard!

Believe me, that's next on the list. Just a light tinting will be applied to take off the "edge" so to speak.

Thanks for making me spend $342.16 I had just laying around. ($121.08 per new OEM light from Ray The Dealer + $100 to tint them). I must say those tail lights look AWESOME! Just had to get me a pair. Jon was very easy to work with. Maybe I will take some pics and post them when I get the lights installed. Thanks for the information.

I just bought some Night Shades tint on Ebay - saw a long tutorial on scuffing, prep, spraying and sanding for clearcoat. Then wet sand with 2000 and buff to a shine. I will practice on my lawn tractor's headlight lense.

They do look nice on a black car but if you ever get rear ended and that person's insurance company finds out you darkened your tailights, well, who knows? Anyway, they look nice.

The tail lamps scream stealth. I would like to see a side by side photo when brake lights are applied.
