One of our local F-club members met Mr. Coates himself at his R&D lab in New Jersey.

Supposedly Ford is looking into this "valvetrain" design. It appears to be a valve-less design, looks like a rotary inlet type of setup.

Comments from the meeting (forgive the occasional grammar glitch, the person quoted is of francophone origin):
"I road test one of his Mustang equipped with his own V8 Coates engine rated at 550 hp and capable of doing 80 miles plus mpg."

"He also came up with a Nascar racing engine equivalent to our 5.7 liter but somewhere in the range of 1000hp. On the dyno the engine ran at 14,800 RPM without any problem ( remember there is no valve train, therefore...no danger to drop a valve )."

"Last...he just sold his pattern for his own brand motorcycle: 'Coates' . He will produce about 500 next year ( 10 per week ). You should see the bike not to mention the sound ( again no cam or valve ). The bike is doing 125 mpg and will compete with any racing bike on the market...its a monster and a real pleasure to drive....I spent about 1.0 hour on the road with this gorgeous and impressive machine."

Impressive, no? No camshaft or valvetrain, and looking at the images it would appear that this type of setup would be right at home on our large headed DOHC motors!

Chrysler and GM have reportedly turned their noses up at this design, but Ford is apparently looking into it.

If he can deliver on 1/2 of those claims, the oil sheiks will be looking to put a hit on him.

Just a little add on to this old post. This complany is as we speak out of R&D for their motorcycle company which is near IPO. I personally know the man who is working to make this company go public and takes care of the financials for many of the investors and their is a lot of amazing things taking place in this facility. I've met George Coates and seen the motor work as well as the motorcycle which is currently pushing around 120-130 HP, dyno proven. This is a company that can change a lot of things in the automotive industry as well as other sectors for that matter. Keep your ears open to this company, you will be hearing about it in the near future.
