He is planning on towing his car down to Reinhart on Saturday the 9th and has a 2 wheel dolly lined up.
He plans on towing the car with the rear wheels on the ground

I told him he needs to tow the car with the front wheels on the ground or remove the driveshaft to prevent MAJOR transmission damage.

Please, please confirm this so he does the right thing

Take the 4 bolts loose, put a wire hanger around it and tie it to the cross-member the airbag's sit on. Check it after a few miles, then check it each stop. Not a big deal. Saves mileage and wear. Don't want the tail waggin' the dog.

Pay the extra couple bucks from uHaul and get the full trailer so no wheels are on the ground!

Have you tried to put a Marauder on a Uhaul trailer?

Get a Flat Bed, or a Tow Trailer.

They are out there. Barry rented one to take his car from OH to IL.

PS - DO NOT TOW DOLLY!

Don't tow on a dolly from the front unless you're planning on a tranny replacement/rebuild along with whatever other work you're having done.

Back it on the dolly and tie the steering wheel so the fronts stay straight.

Obviously everyone already told him what to do. But no one explained why for those that dont know.

The engine runs the pump in the tranny to circulate tranny fluid. If your engine isnt running but your tranny is spinning (will be since it would be connected to the turning driveshaft whether in neutral or not) the trans will have no lubrication. Hence the tranny failure.

He can lock the steering wheel, and tow it back wards or take the drive shaft out, Auto Zone sells a slip in insert that goes in the tail shaft to keep it from leaking with the drive shaft out, good point MacGrath.

Mark, listen to the advice from these guys ^^^. Do NOT tow your car on the rear wheels without disconnecting the DS unless you're having Dennis replace the transmission while it's there.

Agreed 100%. Get a tandem trailer and save your tires as well. Trailer tires=cheap. Marauder tires=very expensive.
Also wanted to mention that going to DR's is a great move. Nothing like taking your MM to a shop that has a line of customer MMs sitting in the parking lot. VERY reassuring.

I was told there is no steering lock for the wheel. But it is true about not disconnecting the d-shaft when towing front wheels up.

I absolutely positively agree with Zack.

The shaft MUST be removed to tow dolly.

I personally could not find a tow dolly wide enough, or rated enough for my MM when I towed it 300+ miles to Zack's house.

Flatbed is the only safe way to go. ;)

Flat bed is the only was to go, unless its a beater....sorry, wouldn't trust them with a 20k vehicle let alone the extra wear and tear...

UHaul has 2 different size trailers. One is rated for GM, use that one and let some air out the front tires or extend the straps.

The biggest car i've used on a dolly was a 85 monte carlo and it fit just fine. Back her up on it and sling the seatbelt through the steering wheel and click it. This is what we used to do when i towed cars and never had a problem. But beware of the Marauders long rear so you don't smack it into tow vehicle on first turn. Also it must be a pivoting dolly so it can turn.

I work for U-Haul and we recommend not to use a Tow Dolly for a Marauder. A good U-Haul Dealer or Center would have checked the towing guide and told you you could not use the TD with a Marauder. You can load the Marauder onto an Auto Transport using a couple of 2X10's about 4 feet long. The front of a Marauder is a bit too low to clear the ramps. The Auto Transport is the recommended method:

If you rent a U-Haul trailer be sure to keep a check on those straps for the front wheels. I used a trailer 3 times and 2 out of 3 times the straps came off dispite me putting them on these as best as I could. The chains will help and they saved my 65 once and my buddys 67 Mustang once too. Also do not exceed 65mph with this thing. If you have a really well built trailer you can do 80 or 90... I won't go that fast again, but with a U-Haul anything over 65 is asking for trouble. Be careful!
