View Full Version : How's It Hangin'?

It's hanging on the cherry picker, tranny attached, ready to drop in the car. Hopefully I'll get it in tomorrow.

It's gonna be a beast. It has more compression turning it over with a breaker bar than it used to by cranking it over with the starter. Blew the tape off the exhaust ports when I was turning it over to connect the torque converter.

I know. I'm thinking of having some 5.3 inserts made to cover the center part.

Yes, I modified the Evenflow adapter, but even with that mod and griding down the elbow fitting it required some grinding on the manifold in a couple of spots.

The crossover tube was a major PITA. I believe I emailed you some pics of the process I went thru awhile back.

That's gonna be a temporary solution. I have a spare aftermarket hood I'll cut and test fit my cowl scoop on. If the cowl scoop is tall enough I may just go with that setup. Possibly I'll spring for one of the fiberglass hoods.

Here it is, almost done. A little bit to do underneath, extend the MAF wires, little details...

Air hose connected...

Good thing I removed the EGR, the wipers will fit! Barely...

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/5/1/8/tn_CIMG0870.JPG

And the vapor recovery solenoid fits, also just barely...

Still gotta cut a hood. Measured and marked with sharpie, just gotta start sawing.

Hard to believe you do all this work all by yourself - unreal. Install photos look great. Any thoughts on rerouting the intake air to the PS and put the filter where the battery was? Keep the photos coming.

I think this will work fine. I'd prefer to keep the trunk space instead of putting the battery back there.

Cutting out the hood...

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/5/1/8/tn_CIMG0872.JPG

First I measured the blower and marked the necessary cutouts if I did a Mad Max. Then I drilled the corners of that area so I coud see from the bottom. From the bottom I drilled a few holes at the narrow part of the inner support frame up close to the front. Then I marked the scoop to make sure I didn't make the cutout too big. Then I followed the contour of the support frame and drilled some more holes.

Cutout the skin...

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/5/1/8/tn_CIMG0875.JPG

And found the inner supports...

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/5/1/8/tn_CIMG0876.JPG

Then cut it out...

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/5/1/8/tn_CIMG0877.JPG

nd took this to the body shop...

http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/5/1/8/tn_CIMG0878.JPG

Now it's time to put the cats back on and install the driveshaft, add fluids, and a few more little details. No big hurry to get it out of the garage since I won't have the hood for a couple of weeks. I hope to fire it up Sunday, don't know how it'll run on the old tune.
