Hi,
I just purchased an 03 Black Marauder. I have seen many folks mention a problem with the paint. What exactly is the problem?

Thank you,
Joe

The clear coat is soft. Any little rock or debris will leave a small indentation in the clear coat. Quality is job #1....

Most black cars painted the first 2 weeks in Aug of '02 are affected. Too much solvent was left in the paint lines and the finished product was *****! My car had little white specks coming through(all over). After 14 months I was lucky and got a full re-paint:up:
Other however were no so well treated. Very sad:sad:

My car was an August 02 car and the dealer had repainted it before it was ever even sold. So I never got to see what the "bad" black paint looked like

Interesting, My build date was Aug 13 02 and my sequence number is 3686. Don't see the paint issues talked about on mine? Also, How can a car built on the 15th of Aug have a sequence number lower than mine? Possible not all the cars built in Aug had this problem?

Like said above. When I had my 2003 the dealer liked to call the white

spots, "the result of acid rain" I liked to call their response bull*****.

Right you are Jim,
Mine started with a few little white marks and they began to crater (sort of like a volcano) down to the metal - then spread like an infection. Only on the horizontal planes, though (hood, roof and trunk). Really looks like crap and I found myself constantly looking at them!!!!
Mine is getting painted next week - got my Ford dealer (where I bought the Bullitt) to kick in $1500 when I threatened not to buy a Shelby from him in 3 years. :coolman:
Can't wait to wax it after it's painted! :D

Wait 90 days before u wax because wax can cause the paint to not cure and haze over!!!

Some "glaze", which will shine the car but will not seal the pores like a wax, is body shop safe and is okay on fresh paint. The meguiar's final inspection hand glaze, I'm pretty sure, is new paint safe.

I sold my black 03' 300A car specificly because of the paint falling off. It had more rust than my 20 year old fox body mustang.

Mine was a mid year build too, it wasn't one of the earlier ones.

Mine may have been helped by the fact it was only driven in the summer and also garage kept. It only has 18K on it. There is no rust at all (even inside the door jams). It sounds like the paint problem is a hit an miss issue. I wonder how they did the build sequence numbers? I heard from Brian (ROYLPITA) that this sequence numbers are tied to the Vin number but it does not follow in order. IE : a car built on 8/13/02 could have a higher sequence number than a car built on 8/15/02.

Hmmm... That doesn't make much sense?

My car was built in September of 02 and the paint on it sucks!
Especially on the hood

How many miles on it and is it driven in the winter? I think this may have something to do with how the paint holds up? I think the 03's get a bad rap. I wonder how some of the 04's will look after another year.

It has 51K on the clock. I do drive it in the winter but only if the roads are clear, no snow on the ground.

Mine is a Sept 02 build date and the clear coat has many spots of white and just an overall bad paint job...:argue:

My paint on my 04 (Black) with 24k miles on it looked horrible in my opinion and I know for a fact it was well cared for. My 03 300A which just turned 50k today looks way better. I must agree with the "Hit or Miss" theme when it comes to the paint quality.

So, It looks like not all 03's have a paint issue. I double checked my paint again and there are no white spots. It has a few small stone chips (very small) on the hood but nothing more than any car would get that is 5 years old. This reminds me of the paint issue that the Buick Grand National's had. I had a few of them. The paint would sort of crack and you would see white spots under the clear. I see nothing like this on mine. Is there any recourse for those that have this problem?

By the way the 03 and 04 Marauders are GREAT cars. It reminds me of the Grand National's. These will be the cars that the next generation will be looking for. There are very few car over the last 10 or so years that come even close to the Marauders! Now is not a good time to sell but I bet in a few more years you will see these cars at the top of the list of I WANT ONE OF THOSE.
