You would think it would get easier after about 5 times of install/removal. Nope, it's still a PITA.

When I looked at your install pics, I couldnt help but wonder why the passenger header wasnt bolted up :dunno:

It's hard to install with either header pre-mounted because of the oil pan. It has to go between the motor stands of the crossmember just so or it won't fit. Plus I busted the heater housing once when I tried to install with the headers pre-installed. Luckily I had a spare and swapped it the next time the motor was out.

Which headers are you talking about?

I'll beat ya. Doing SLP 1 3/4th long tubes on a Mach 1. We actually had to drill holes in the inner fender to get a stocket on the damn studnuts. I would rather sit in a corner and punch mself in the nuts for 20 minutes than donate time/garage for that project again.

Kooks.

This is the 3rd different set I've installed. Every set has some minor differences. This set I couldn't get the starter in. Modified the motor mount and the starter goes right in.

I hate Kooks headers.
But $$$$ will get them installed every time.

My Kooks were actually the easiest LT install I have ever been apart of except for on my 69 1/2 Superbee. I suppose the variations in the manifold could cause some issues on the passenger side with so little room available.

You know I find myself drawn more and more to Stainless works from threads like these to the beautiful idle from red's H pipe

I've been replacing the exhaust manifolds on my 1988 F150 the past few days. 20 years of rust, carbon and dirt. I don't want to hear any whining about working on a pristine engine.

WOW! I would hate to have to deal with those manifold bolts!!!

The Header to Downtube bolts on my Beater ('88 Grand Am) were seized so badly, that a 2 Foot breaker bar would NOT get the job done!

:mad2:

Now why would you want to mess with that, it's no K5 Blazer. ;)

PB Blaster, several sprays and lots of soak time.

That's one reason why I will go with SW headers cause everyone says their easier to install.

For the long tube install on my buddies mustang he dropped the k-member and it was not too bad. However dropping the k-member is easier than re-installing it. Tried doing that on a jack but it kept moving around and we could never get it to line up long enough so slide the bolts in. Eventually we had to get two guys to get underneath and basically bench press it while we lined slid the bolts in.

Try that on a Marauder!

Drop the crossmember then find that the heads won't fit between the frame rails.

Dropping K-members is sheer hell. I'd rather pull the engine.
