Go to "Fuel/Air" drop list and you will find the IAC....Idle Air Control Valve.....they gunk up fairly easily!!:argue: m Others have cleaned them with brake cleaner but I have had little success once the begin sticking??:shake:

My PC was about $5K delivered and I did the first FIT "Self Install" which took several days due to a BIG EEC glitch but finally got it right!!

PS: Important note....USE ONLY MOTORCRAFT PART!!!

Just FYI on RockAuto... I ordered an IAC from them once and what I received looked like they went to the bone yard and yanked it off a rusted hooptie... It was USED.

There is a reason they are cheap.. because they are CHEAP, in not a good way.

I've had good luck with them John??

Did they take the "used" part back??

lol, Staten Island Florida, recomend'ed me to clean that erly'er today,
befor I seen this posting I used MAF cleaner, it feels better but
would it be evan more clean if I use Carb Cleaner?,

one more thing sorry to bother you,
Afther I clean'ed the IAC I tryed to reset every thing by,

disconect'd + and re'connect it back to battery, but has I
went to fasten wrench around the nut I noticed it was very loose,
could of that mabey bine the problem?, and had no luck reset'ing
every thing, the radio presets was still ther, mabey I should have the dealer flash it?.

hay its about 6am I havent realy slept yet im realy pissed off,

Ok I cleand'ed the IAC it ran decent way better then befor
ok i figure i double the odds by clean'ing out the hole entire

intake system maf as well, it aint idleing the way it was
right afther i cleaned out the IAC, you know what I hate to

say it this is the most stupid'ets car i'v ever owner if I had extra
money right now i would walk out side with a dawm slege hammer
and go off, i dint know you have to be a milti billion air to own
a marauder any ways i give up lol,

when im rolling on the hie way it runs like a bat outa heck,
but when its idleing at a light its so stupid why god why lol,

is it possiable the IAC just wont hold the cleaning mabey i just have
to go and by a new one?, cause it did get better afther cleaning.

any one ever go trough this?......................... ........

MAF cleaner isn't strong enough for the IAT. Did you touch the MAF when you cleaned it? Thats a big no no. The MAF is easily damaged. Resetting the computer takes 20 minutes. The radio stations will still be there, but the tone controls, clock ect will be reset.

disconect'd + and re'connect it back to battery, flash it?.

NEVER disconnect the "+" first!!:eek::shake:

Always disconnect the "-" first and always reconnect the "-" last as a spark or voltage surge from the "+" terminal can damage your EEC (computer)!!:argue:

Disconnecting the "-" for a minute will reset the EEC but the radio will only lose speed volume, base/treble, clock and balance/fade settings!! For some reason the station presets remain??

Good Luck!!

HotRodMercury,

Please don't take any of this the wrong way. A lot of damage can be done with a person, who doesn't know what they are doing, repairing things that aren't broke.

It's awesome that you ask questions, but please ask them before you act.

Cleaning the IAC out with carb-cleaner should have fixed your idle problem... 99%. I've seen maybe one IAC ever that actually needed to be replaced.

Cleaning the MAS is really easy.... also easy to screw it up. How many miles are on the car? With a proper filter (and proper filter cleaning if it's reusable) the MAS should'nt be dirty. If it was... then it should be cleaned with a light MAS cleaner, not carb cleaner.

Cleaning out the entire intake really won't cause any damage unless you cleaned out the throttle body. Most mod-motors from what I have seen have a protective coating on them and carb cleaner will clean it off. Throttle body will start to corrode and possibly lean around the mating surface, causing un-metered air to enter the system (and possibly along with contaminates) causing a lean condition. Not a biggy on a N/A car... but still... not perfect. This could also cause idling issues.

Disconnecting the battery. There is a lot of different opinions out there on what to disconnect first.

Work on marine engines most of the time and in bilges... I rather not have a spark... so I disconnect the NEG terminal first. This also causes another problem. If there is any shock to the electrical system or there are some charged capacitors someplace... there is no escape for the current... it has to go somewhere... possibly damaging components. Long shot, but I've seen it happen.

Disconnecting the POS first might create a spark if you are slow with it, BUT, the negative is still connected, giving stay current a place to ground out safely.

I think you way over oiled that K&N filter if there is oil all the way up to the TB. Ouch.

I just looked and you may have been right but he has since cleaned the MAF and removed and cleaned the idle control and it appears to run like it should. Idle in park at about 700 rpms and when in drive down to about 600 rpms, at least when I drove it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't cleaning the IAC specifically warned against in the shop manual?
