View Full Version : This year is a bust.
I cant catch a break...ever when it comes to cars.
Over 4 months ago, I left a $3400 deposit with my engine builder for a 5.0 Big Bore, Ported Heads and Cams.
What do I have today? A box of pistons and a box of rods.
It really pains me because this is the same shop that churned out Cruztaker's engine, SergntMac's last engine and the engine in my Mach 1.
The quality of work is unrivaled, thats what makes this so difficult.
Ive thought about this at length. Hell it ruined my day yesterday :mad2:
I think its time to pick up my parts, collect my balance and move on.
Sadly, the only part I will be purchasing for my Heartless Marauder now is a California Car Cover. :bigcry:

What's the shop's reasoning for the delay or incomplete work?

They got really busy with the Pro Stock circuit this year.

Sorry to hear that. Every performance auto machine shop I've dealt with has had delays. Pulled my engine in Feb, committed to have it back in Apr, finally got it in Aug.

Ya, I hear ya...
My Marauder has been down for over a year.
We (PaCammer) now have the motor Repulled and the oilcrank scraper corected. (it was oriented 180degrees and pushed oil on crank)
As a side note:
please got to my new thread. perhaps you can help answer a question of mine.

Believe me I know about all kinds of delays includding two I'm really itching about now. My friend took a car in last Dec to have the engine rebuilt, turns out the car is junk so he got another one go to nuts on... to this day it is still incomplete while the owner of the shop is on vacation in Greece. Ya who paid for that? :mad2:
Zack sometimes it is best just to let these things sit and you cool down about them. My 65 Chevy won't see another new part for at least a month and I really wanted to have fun with it this WHOLE summer... I got my self let down too, but shops are the worst. I can't stand those places, all they want is the easy money, all the big projects can wait. I wish I knew how to do my next project, but the old school one is waiting on a part and that part is waiting on my money. :o

Zack, if you would like to use Al Papitto, I will happily monitor and document progress as I have with Ed.
Let me know if I can help.

Zack, just assemble it yourself. It isn't rocket science.

True, but I dont hone, nor do I file-fit rings, nor do I have access to the tools needed to measure clearances, bore sizes.
I cant cut, balance and add metal to a crankshaft.
I cant port heads, do a valve job, replace valve guides etc.
I can however assemble everything once that is all done :D

Thanks for the offer, I will consider it!

File fitting rings is not hard to do by hand. Tedious but not hard. Honing for final clearance is a different story. I wouldn't think you'd have a hard time finding another shop just to do the final hone for your pistons??

I was thinking of getting a moped and attaching the blower so I could drive up there every other day or so, but I don't think I could take the LOOKS I'd get, or the people screaming out their windows telling me I need some :help:.
But this years has been full of trials and tribulations.

I have had similar problems with engine shops when the racers need work the street cars take a back seat, thats the way they do it.But they should be reasonable about it after all you are paying them.

Zack, it seems to be that way everywhere. It seems like the better a guy gets at something the more independent he is about doing it. While the assembly is not rocket science, it is the little tricks and prima-donna approaches to it that set those guys apart. There is a reason they got where they are. I wish you luck in getting it done. I have dealt with this a lot over the years with machinist, body guys and painters. :mad2:

4 Months?! The shop most of us go through around here is about 1 week. Find a local shop that other racers use that have had good results.
