I sooo need a macro lens. :depress:

Here a few entries for the insect captures.
The sun has just come up nicely, but it is so hot right now, all of the cool bugs are chilling elsewhere.

The butterflys are looking a little ragged...

Killer photos Barry!

I've got to get a really good digital camera to take pictures like that!

Here is two photos of a MONSTER Moth that I rescued from the street the other morning.
It was flopping around and caught my eye because it was SO big.....
I put it in one of our plant pots and it was gone when I got home from work.
I guess that it was OK after a little rest...:dunno:

It is a Polyphemus moth and the big spots on its' wings look like an owl's eyes.
If a smaller bird or rodent tries to eat the moth, it flashes its' wings and startles the crap out of its' attacker.
Amazing how nature evolves to produce a moth with very realistic looking 'eyes' on its' wings.

It is a Polyphemus moth

We had a Polyphemus Moth on the screen door last year. Absolutely enormous. It was at least 6" from wingtip to wingtip, and it's body was as big as my thumb. Biggest moth I've ever seen. Thats why we looked it up to see what it was.
