Fined $12,000 for going 163 mph in a 68.3 mph zone.

That is 263 kph in a 110 kph zone.

Another guy was fines $8,500 for going 206 kph in a 110 kph zone.

206 kph = 128 mph.

And on two wheels! Guy must be nuts. That's faster than I've gone in my MM...

That doesn't seem reasonable or logical for a judge to assess that kind of penalty for merely speeding on a highway. The punishment certainly does not fit a traffic violation. So unless this person is filthy rich how does he pay it off? Appeal, installments, ignore, what....?

I would probably have to go to jail for the rest of my life for that kind of fine.

Remind me not to speed in Canada.

I had my GSXR 750 rocket up to 140 mph purely by accident just getting up to speed on the highway never once running through any gear. Yes its that easy to get carried away with what these have to offer and it will only take seconds to get a ticket like that.

Might as well hit it and try your luck at getting away, with those steep ridiculous fines.

Why? That is exactly what Judges are for. The punishment is fixed in the Highway traffic act. $X for every kilometre per hour over the posted limit. An additional $Y for speed in excess of +10, +20 +30 over. They were doing in excess of +150 over the limit. At +50 over the posted limit, it's an automatic court date.

If you can afford a car that goes that fast, and feel like opening it up - be prepared for the fine. And possible a suspension and/or jail time.

I'll bet I even know the stretch of highway they were caught on. I know where they sit and wait. If you die in Canada, you die in real life!
