Gentlemen, The Ford part number for the rubber hood bumper that fits perfectly on the MM and CV of similar vintage is N807055S. It was found under the 96 Ranger parts listing. They are exactly what the hood needs. They fit into the slots on the fender and mate to the angled face of the inner hood panel positioned exactly on top of the slot. Steve

I pick them up yesterday from ford, $4 a piece, not bad. I see where they go, like the were made for panther cars, but is the hood supposed to shut ON them? I mean the sharp under-sides of the hood, like the pinch-weld shuts ON them. Almost thought the hood cut them in half when I did the 1st hood shut with them installed. But when a opened the hood again they seemed fine, no cuts or scratches.
I thought hood guides/bumpers were supposed to just keep the hood centered when shut, thus stopping the side to side shake and not speaking rubbing on the hood bump stops on top of the radiator support.

I used the Ford Expedition bumpers -- Ford Part Number -N804384-S (comes in a package of two for $8.40 back in 2007).

I just went through the dreaded squeak last week. It comes back every few months and drives me nuts. Each time I clean out the grease in and around the main hood latch and re-grease it well. That does it but it is a messy job to have to do 2 - 3 times a year. It is amazing how rapid the squeak is and how impossibly annoying it is. The best place to hear it is in a parking garage at 5 miles an hour!
How can these side bumpers quell the latch squeak - simply by holding the hood more steady?

Yep ^^^^ but it is not really a perfect cure. I tend to latch as well. When it starts to annoy me, I just crank up the volume on the CD player. ;)

I just recrank up the little adjusters time to time. The hood sits a wee bit high but is atleast quite! I'll have to look into these.
Most of the squeak comes from the hinges closest to the windshield, and probably no one but me ever lubricates those

In my case it has to be the main latch because the squeak goes completely away each time I attend to it.

Sorry, but all you needed to buy was the felt pads that you put under lamps, and attach it to the indented area just above the hood stops.

Sorry...I would rather have a rubber bumper that looks like it belongs there then a stick pad that will fall off eventually....

This ^^^^ is not a cure all either. I put the felt pads in the underside hood dent. Lubed the hood latch and installed the rubber bumpers. I still have to occasionally adjust the bumper screws on either side. Now I'll be looking at the upper hinges per Zack's recommendation so I can join the Elite.

Actualy I think those are the ones to get over the N807055S that I have ordered and installed today. The N807055S are too big and dont have the good design to fit the hood, this force my hood too much so it dont follow the line of the fender anymore.
I will try to find the part # for the one like in the picture.

Charlie I believe those are the correct ones. I threw away the bacon slices I had been using for lube, installed these and not a squeek since in about 3 years. I did run a nut up on the theads of the bumpers and when the height was correct I ran the nuts down to secure the setting forever. No problemo. Dennis:beer:

Actually, the hood squeek can be fixed via lubing the latch contact point. PM frdwrnch for the details, I saw him do this on a car about 3 years ago; about a 10 sec fix, squeek went right away.

Remember to adjust the hood latch mechanism down until the hood mates into the bumpers, properly adjust the front round screw type supports up until they contact, lube all contact points with sylglide or equivelant and the squeak should be dispelled.

One of the many reasons why the Marauder community is great!
I've never had the dreaded hood squeak, but after I got my Marauder back from the body shop I heard a squeaking noise while driving at slow speeds over small bumps.
I thought that it sounded like a rear control arm problem, but I remembered the threads about a squeaking problem..
I did a search for the threads, and read how many people mistook the hood squeak for something else.
Lubed the hood latch with spray lithium grease and also lubed the rear most hinges by the windsheild....VOILA!
No more "suspension squeak"!
I might buy a set of those small rubber bumpers as well...they look like cheap insurance.
Thanks!

Well after all these years Thor has acquired the dreaded hood squeak.:mad2: Will go Monday to Smith Ford and order up the bumpers Bluerauder recommends. Now I need to rummage around in the garage to see if I can find the old grease gun so as to lube up the latch.:beatnik:

I just replaced my hood to get rid of the defective paint one and now I have the squeak. Thanks for the advice on eradication.
By the way, aircardcorp on ebay did a beautiful job of painting the hood. It matches great and is almost flawless. Cheap too!

Seriously, I am not trying to bump old threads because I think it's funny, but I have been searching for a solution here. I get the hood squeak and have been doing what justbob, offroadkarter and glockafella have been doing: just raising the hood bumpers. It fixes the squeak ... for a little while.
But I seem to be adjusting the hood bumpers every other week or sometimes every couple days. Is there something I can do to keep the bumpers going for awhile?

Use either a jam nut or thread locker.

When we bought Mary's car from Sergnt Mac, I noticed about a year later that he had installed wing-nuts on the threaded part of the hood bumpers. Makes periodic adjustments a snap, although I've only had to do it once.

Yeah I'm sure. Every couple days it will wiggle back down, the left side of my hood will get lower and I get the squeak.

At the dealer we'd just apply a little dielectric grease on the hood adjusters. Seemed to take care of it. Just noticed mine starting to squeak this afternoon.

You're not crazy. I had the same problem until I got the posts/bumpers at the right height - then I put a few drops of blue locktight at the base of the threads were they go into the nut.
I haven't had to adjust them or had a squeak (from the hood) in 10 years!

Locktite or jam nuts work.

Jamb nuts would be the "bullet proof" way - at the time I was going for quick fix that you couldn't see. I didn't expect it to last this long.
