A 4dr poor man's Corvette, afraid to say but I am starting to save money towards this.

Back in July, our editors spent time with the Pontiac G8 GT, complimenting the vehicle on its muscle car engine, yet noting the lack of a manual gearbox option. Perhaps Pontiac reads Car Tech, because they've released the specs on the 2009 G8 GXP and they've bumped the power and included a six speed manual transmission.

Users on the GM Inside News Forum have unearthed a PDF dyno chart on GM's media site that shows the 6.2 liter LS3 V-8 engine from the Corvette transplanted into the G8 GXP generating 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Power will be sent through a six speed manual transmission. The six speed automatic transmission is still available.

The GXP will also feature larger 19 inch wheels and Brembo brakes, as well as slightly revised front and rear fascias.

Inside the cabin, the Pontiac will feature an updated steering wheel, but will retain the same limited audio options and lack of GPS navigation that the GT version suffers, so perhaps Pontiac's engineers haven't been listening to the Car Tech editors after all.

I like it, and for the same reasons I like the Marauder.

Why doesn't Ford have anything even remotely as interesting as the G8 - come on! How much suffering do us Ford guys have to endure?

They do...Ford seems to have a deathwish though. Keeping all of their Aussie products away from americans is doing them harm.

I test drove a GT for a couple of hours when they first hit the streets. It is a very nice car, but at that point they would not come off of the sticker price. Waiting to see if Ford is going to send something over from Australia.

Some guy got his bone stock G8 GT to do 13.3!

Also found this......

ProCharger 140whhp kit! Plus there is already KOOKS headers (cheaper than what ours cost, grrrr!) and other little things for the car.

If the rear styling was different (better) there would be one in my driveway.

I sat in one and it was awesome.

A Twin Turbo setup would be BAD ASS on a G8!

Even a single turbo would do wonders and it will happen cause the car is not really that much different from the GTO.

You can pick up a new Vette for around 38K. (advertised in local paper)

The G8 will be close in price IMO.

Think the GXP comes out later this year. Should be ultra fast as the GT is already damn quick. Its on my "look at" list with the Challenger R/T Classic and the Camaro SS.

I'm waiting......

I'd take the auto trans with the paddle shift option anyday!

315 kW translates to 422 hp.

What the hell is a "GXP"?, It's a shame what they are building these days. Just garbage!!!!!!

I test drove one last. Just a GT. It was a blast. Very nice. I am thinking very hard as this being my daily driver after my Jetta dies. Right now employee pricing on left over 08's. Thank knocks off 1500.00 sticker. On the 16th of this month is GM 100 yr anniversary. They might be doing something special for thaat day. The 09's should get employee pricing in the near future. It's OK I am not in a hurry.

Not into Pontiacs. Why put all that money into a Marauder to just sell it, beats the crap out of me, I am keeping mine!

It would become next year my daily drive if MGM and TC would suddenly disappear from the market. V8, RWD, torque...reminds me the MM, without the exclusivity.

I just read only 1,900 G8's were sold in August. Maybe everyone is waiting on the GXP version.

One will be replacing my Marauder when they depreciate for a year or two. Even the Gt's have great potential. A cam, cai, and tune netted 110rwhp gain at New Era. I'd have one now but I'm not getting hosed with GM's rapid depreciation rates.

I remember when the GTO came out in late 2003 and they wanted $38,000 for it and 2 years later you could pick up a used 1 for $18,000, it's a shame how fast GM's depreciate, it's a nice car but there will be more potential and parts for the Camaro. I hate to say this but I think Pontiac may go the way of Oldsmobile if they do not get there act together, this car should have been built 5 or 6 years ago, I remember looking at the GTO and saying to the salesman put that engine trans and rearend in the Pontiac Grand Prix and you have a sale, I loved that Grand Prix, but a V-6 and front wheel drive was not what I wanted. The GTO had no room inside and the same thing for this Camaro, hopefully this new Pontiac will have some room inside.

I think a retro GTO is in order. Based on the Judge model.

I agree with you on this one Bob, they could do better then that. How bout a retro muscle version, old mixed in with the new. Almost looks like a Honda.

I say buy it while you can. With everything going "green" and gas prices still being high, these may be the last muscle cars ever made. I believe I read that Ford is going to use a FI V6 for the next Mustang GT. If its true the rest may follow.

V6TT and 5.0L production version of the Cammer engine. Their toying with the idea of a Boss edition model with the 5.4 DOHC non s/c motor.

This is a great car for a young married guy with kids who still loves cars, but is whipped and can't get the OK from the Boss to buy a hot car. So he buys this nice 4 door which can pass for a family car. The wife thinks everything is cool and the guy is thrilled. This was how a number of MM were sold to guys.

My wife likes the G8 and I already got the ok to get one as long as it's automatic which I'm up in the air about cause I would love to have a manual so my wife can't drive it lol.

She still thinks I'll get her a black MM with sunroof one day.......rofl. Wishful thinking, got to love it.

Im thinking around March-ish of 09 will be a good time to car shop with Camaro SS's, Challenger R/T Classics and G8 GXP's hopefully available. The only other car worth waiting for might be the Cadillac Coupe V series but that would likely be out of my price range (though Ive always wanted to own a shiny new black Cadillac once in my life).

I may get flamed, but whatever. I personally like the styling of the car and the car on the whole. I rented one for over a week on a recent trip out west. Here are some HDRs I created during the trip:

Not at all, I like them alot. They definately spent alot of time looking at the BMW 3 series. You can't please everyone. But I'll be happy when I have a 11 second daily driven G8.

Yeah, there are quite a few of the G8 GT guys over at g8board.com running insane times/mph. There are several forced induction and N/A options (heads, cams, etc.) to get in the 400-500 RWHP range that won't break the bank.

Test drove one when they GTs hit the nearby dealer, very nice, but did not feel much quicker than the SS, obviously weight difference but a great car.
