We recently brought you video (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/19/autoblog-first-drive-2009-corvette-zr1/) of the Corvette ZR1 (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/corvettezr1) being manhandled around General Motors' Milford Proving Grounds by our own Sam Abuelsamid. House rules that day made the car a 4-on-the-floor, since invitees weren't allowed to explore any gear beyond fourth. Car junkies over in Europe, however, recently got a chance to ride in the first pre-production ZR1 on The Continent while it was shaken down and then flogged on the Autobahn before heading to Nardo. If you believe the speedometer, the yellow scorcher runs to 315 kph (195.73 mph) before it ran out of clear highway, not out of speed. Looks like we'll have to change the phrase from "blue" to "Fast as yellow blazes..." Follow the jump (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/11/video-corvette-zr1-doing-195-mph-on-the-autobahn/) to check out the full video. Thanks for the tip, Thomas!

That's it? The GT went faster I think. A nasty car none the less.

The good thing about this is that you have two German guys raving over the performance of an American car. :2thumbs:

In the Utube video, the top speed was just under 300 kph (186 mph).

Looks like the Autobahn is much more congested than I remember. More congestion around all the big cities. I remember big open stretches with hardly any traffic at all (at least back in the mid-70s). My favorites sections were between Kaiserslautern-Freisen, between Karlsruhe-Weurzburg, and between Munich-Garmisch/Partenkirchen. Maintaining lane discipline is an absolute must. Slow traffic keep Right.

You also have to look at the traffic that was on the autobahn. The car was still pulling hard just before the driver had to slow down.

The GT was a limited car and insanely expensive. This car will be what...30k cheaper? You could buy one of the rediculously priced sub 3000 mile marauders on here as your daily.
