... and $4.859 for Plus. Regular at $4.759.

A day before Hurricane Ike struck the Texas coast, one of our local gas stations decided to engage in some profiteering at the expense of unsuspecting motorists in the county. The local "Fast Fuels" franchise boosted its prices about $1.20 per gallon in each grade above most of the nearby brand name stations including Exxon and Shell.

Their price sign made the cover of today's local paper. I hope the residents respond accordingly by refusing to ever buy from this gas station again. Since they are an off-brand, no name station ... it wasn't likely that they were ever gonna get any of my business anyway.

The station is located only 1/2 block off I-95, so I guess that they were hoping to catch some travelers and tourists by surprise. Generally, this county has a reputation for the "lowest" prices in the area.

Be careful out there and check the prices BEFORE you start pumping. There are some real dirtbags out there trying to make a fast buck off IKE and other disaster situations.

I would think your attorney general's office would be interested in what his pricing is based on.

New realities are setting in, Gas will increase in price - went from 3.71 Friday to 3.87 this AM and will prolly be changing as the day goes by. 10 gallon limits on gas purchases and OUT OF GAS signs becoming more frequent.

For those of us going to MV, be prepared for more frequent stops and think about carrying a five gallon gas can in case stations are out of gas on your route.

Cheers.....?

Category 2 Hurricane, Category 5 Fleecing at the pump.

Gas jumped 13c/l here overnight. Amazing the co-ordinated effort with which prices in 2 countries rise but severe apathy to how fast prices fall.

I like the reason too - refined gas price jumped because of poor inventories, and all at once pumps ran dry. Not just where you are Pat, a bunch in my area ran dry too. Edmonton, Calgary and points in between. What an odd coincidence.

Federal gov is going to step in and go after people that were price gouging. One of my uncles owns several fuel stations in MD and he had to raise gas by 10 cents for all grades and 5 cents for diesel to cover his increased cost of what he had to pay to buy it. Prices will go back down in 2-3 days.

I really don't think that's the case. Everyone acts like we're running outta gas or something, nope, not yet! Do NOT expect this to be the norm unless you want it to be. This sort of bad pricing habits and non-action from the legistlature and loopholes that allow rabid speculation are what cause this sorta thing. Hurricanes didn't have this kind of impact on fuel costs before until Katrina, now everyone is gun-shy and what a great cover for price hikes.

I paid 3.99 tonight, same station 2 weeks ago, 3.59.

Category 2 Hurricane, Category 5 Fleecing at the pump.

This is what's going on. I heard from a friend in TN that when the evacuatons were ordered gas jumped over $1 to nearly $5/gallon. This was done to capture desperate people who were evacuees and had no choice but to fill up to get to their destinations if they were going further inland or seeeking refuge with family out of state.

Shame on everyone of those places, it sucks to hit at people when they're down. Every franchise that did this should lose their business liscense or better yet let the consumers drive the change and simply drive them out of business.

Charlie - I know this fast gas dump you talk about, used to be a Sunoco right? Haven't gone there yet and won't ever in the future.

$3.75 would be cheap for regular. It never really went down here. I paid $3.79 for regular in a Syracuse suburb today. 93 is still over $4. and to top it all off crude went down to $97 & change per barrel today, minimal damage to any oil facilities from Ike. So how are the creeps going to explain this round of BOHICA???

not even sure of the prices here, I got gas like 4-5 days before any of this took place, I paid 3.89 for premium that time. When I heard about the price going to go up I had my friend come by and we detuned my car so I would not use so much fuel(just turned the boost down in the first 3 gears) so I could last a few days longer than normal.

Charlie, I heard from a friend tonight that Sheetz on PW Pkwy just before the turn at old bridge was over $5. Were they trying to compete with FasMart????

I filled up in Herndon area for $3.95 I woulda figured Woodbridge (PWC) would be cheaper...!

Of course if that's true, it's another major gouge, I can't believe it if it's true.

Its really spotty. I heard that Sheetz in Maryland was near $5.00 earlier in the week. Haven't been past the Sheetz on the Parkway since Sunday and they were just little higher than the Crown station across the street. Fast Fuels dropped their price to $3.999 Premium on Tuesday. Could be that the independent stations didn't have the buffer afforded by the name brands and had much wilder fluctuations.

Paid $4.359 for Shell 93 in Greenville Monday evening, $4.29, this morning in central TN, and $4.35 when I topped off later this afternoon. Hope prices hold (at worst) or drop before the trip home.

Several Sheetz in the Frederick/Carroll County area have closed up for the mean time because they have no gas. I got gas tonight for $3.85 for Sunoco 93.
