Anybody know what the cheapest available rim for a set of 18" drag radials would be? What is our backspacing? Would the widest steel wheel work for now. This will be for strip only so i could care less what they look like. The tire size is 265/40/18. Ideas? Thanks, Bob.

Probably aftermarket. Explorer spare wheel with the 18" package is only 7.5" wide.
I found a few on Summit that will work. Cheapest 9"--the minimum recommended width by MT--with a 40mm offset (basically puts the extra 1" on the outside) was an American Racing aluminum wheel... see here (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=ARE-1988967). There are lots of options when it comes to wheels... that's just one. My recommendation is 18"x9" (obviously 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern) with a relatively large positive offset. You can use this calculator (http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp) to determine where different offsets will put the extra width (stock wheels are 8" wide with a 50mm offset). Also, if you can get aluminum wheels for nearly the same cost as steel, I'd go for them as there will be savings in rotating weight.
Also, you should ensure the wheels you're looking at have sufficient load rating. I don't think you'll have a problem finding ones that do in this size/width and with that lug pattern, but then again, I don't know what the import market uses. Anyway, the gross axle weight rating (GAWR) listed on your tire placard should show two weights: front axle (2585 lbs) and rear axle (2685 lbs). The wheels I posted have a load rating of 1600 lbs each, meaning a total of 3200 lbs for the rear axle in your case, meeting/exceeding the rear GAWR.
