A coworker was telling a story of a trip he won to a driving school through Ford.
He said he had a Gen II SHO up to 150-160 mph , on a six lane in Tennesee.
All my research claims the top speed in the Taurus SHO to be very low 140's
I just kept my mouth shut, I've embellished a tad here and there. :bs:

I had an 89 SHO, the first year they came out. Had that great looking intake manifold and engine. Very impressive when you opened the hood. It was a fast 4-door car, sloppy shiifter, good in the snow with the FWD, but once moving it was a rocket ship. Never found out what it would do on the top end. On the highway when doing 70 & down shifting, then nailing it, she would rocket to 120 mph easily. Not many cars could keep up with her for a quick highway race.

My 'personal research' indicates the same.
Many years ago I raced...errr.....paced an SHO (Yamaha V6) in my 85 Mustang GT and we each topped out at..........140 MPH!
It was so cool listening to my 5.0 roar, totally maxed out at WOT, while the SHO was right next to me HOWLING like a banshee!!!
Ahhh the good 'ole days of my irresponsible youth!
BTW: I also 'paced' a Shelby GLHS, and we both topped out at exactly 140 MPH!
My GT had more gear at 140MPH in 5th, but she just couldn't pull any more rpm against all that air!

I never got my Gen II over 135, I did however have my Gen III up to 162 verified by GPS on the Italian Autostrada... I wouldnt attempt it again tho

Yessir!
I found out the hard way;
When I started to 'pace' that SHO in my '85 GT,
I downshifted the 5.0 and nailed it at @ 55 mph....only to watch that SHO jump out to a 2 car length lead and it kept pulling on me!!!...
It took me a long time to claw my way past him....and that was only once we got above 125 mph.
Those SHOs really get it from a roll.

That's what I thought, but I was wondering where the one I have pix of was hiding all these years. It looks like it would surprise a lot of people, me included.

I was surprised to learn the Gen II v-6 sho's were faster than the gen III 3.4 v-8's.

My GEN 3 SHO always got its ass handed to it by the V6 guys if they had sticks...
Actually it usually always got its ass handed to it. My Marauder is soooooooooooooo much faster. At my altitude it took a 100 shot to get it down to 14.8's. hahahaha.
The REALLY modified V6 ones I can see going that fast. But a stock one? hell no, not enough HP to wind resistance....

I had everything available to my Gen III V-8 SHO except a power adder and even then my Gen II with only a few mods would walk the V-8 without much effort. The V-8 only recieved 15hp more than the V-6 and was much heavier not to mention the AX4N in the V-8s are garbage. Top speed on the Gen III's is much easier to obtain if modified and much smoother. 135mph in my Gen II feels like panels are going to start flying off at anytime, other than getting a little loose at 162 the Gen III didnt rattle or anything.
A few pics of my old baby...RIP :(

Barb and I got off of the PA turnpike, headed East on US 30 in my '88 5.0LX/5sp, and tangled with one of those things. It is a long hill and the lady driving the SHO ran out of steam before we did, but I was shifting gears and pushing as hard as possible, by the time I realized that lady was about to hand me my head. I'm sure she was laughing her ass off, just like Barbie does when some rice boy decides to blow the doors off her Aviator....NOT! :D
