View Full Version : Marauder Tour
Me and The Mrs headed across America August 6th, back September 6th.
From New Jersey, I70 across the middle. Vale CO, Moab UT, North Rim Grand Canyon, South Rim Grand Canyon, DisneyLand Anaheim CA, Vegas, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, I90 back, Devils Tower, Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Rock Hall at Cleveland.
7914 miles, 23.24 mpg. Like a train that car is. OutSTANding road car, flattened mountains like nothing, 105 mph across Kansas and 105 - 110 back across Wyoming, like a damn train that thing.
Saw two on the lot while getting oil changed in Anaheim. One or two on the road, both on the way back to NJ. One up close in Chicago, his was clean, mine looked like a crap sandwich.
Didn't race at all. Answered lots of questions. Valet dudes wanted it, but I park my own.
Couple hours last night to clean it up. Them dang pipes though, they are cruddy. Suggestions?

and another vote for never dull.
I didn't know they made wipes. I'm still using the old canned rag stuff. Had the can about 20 years and it still works good. Do they make a disposible wipe?

I wish I had known you were coming through Chicago, would have been a treat to hook up with you for a break in the driving.
Where were the worst roads, besides Chicago?

You can also try a solution of diluted white vinegar ;)

August 17th - 21st. Very crowded. Glad I got on Big Thunder a halfa dozen times when I did. Couldn't get on Matterhorn, Splash. Space down for the count until...05? Nice park, but we are very spoiled World passholders, down there couple of times a year. They should fold up Land and move it to Orlando.

Oh thanks, it would have been nice to stop in Chicago!
Worst roads...huh.
Yeah, Chicago pretty bad, not unlike most of the major cities in this country, forever attempting to fix something that can't be fixed.
Worst for actual driving would be I90 across the bottom of MN, got these damn little bumples in it that seem to have a cumulative effect, yer getting a headache within a few miles of getting up to a decent cruising velocity. Forever.
Most embarrassing is, of course, anything this side of Harrisburg.
Naahhh. Anything this side of Pittsburgh is more like it. Then of course there is always NJ. I don't know why we even bother to pave them anymore.

There's a section of I-88 here, W/B between Naperville and DeKalb that is so lumpy, you would swear you're driving on a flat. It's the right lane, even the trucks stay out of it. I always see people pulling over and looking at their tires with that WTF look on their face. This is the worst road I've ever driven on, and just to aggravate you more, the bumps and lumps are not visible, it looks like clean smooth pavement.
Glad you enjoyed your journey, rct, that's one way to break in a new car.
