Another great one gone, but not forgoten. I was just saying that to a friend on the phone. It seems like the era of big movie stars (who were great actors) has come to a close. Of course Paul Newman was so much more with his racing career and his philanthropy. Nice to know he died at home surrounded by his family and friends.

Steve McQueen years ago and now Paul Newman. Two of my favorite actors because both were car enthusiasts. Both raced and drove the cars themselves, no fills-in. Paul Newman will surely be missed. May he rest in peace.

Paul was simply one of the very best actors of our time - period.

I really loved Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Cool Hand Luke - genius.

He was one of the great legends of our time. I've always had respect for him as an individual, an actor, and a car racing enthusiast. Seeing people like him pass away, makes me wonder who will take their place.

He was a rare find in the strange environment called Hollywood. He's on my list of some of the good people in this world.

One of the last remaining living legends. RIP.

Well, we still have DeNiro and Pacino.

I just saw this and wanted to pass this on with a heavy heart.

R.I.P. "Fast Eddie Felson". I am surprised that no one has mentioned "The Hustler". Maybe only US old timers remember that one.

Condolences to his wife JoAnne Woodward. They just celebrated their Golden Anniversary (50th) in January 2008.

"Now i can be a real nice guy.... or i can be a real mean sumb*tch. It's all up to you."

New airings of Cool Hand Luke leave this line out.

In movies my favorite role for him was in "Hud", being a basic ******* and driving the hell out of that Cadillac convertible on dirt roads. As for the main thing, this guy gave away between 150-200 million bucks to kids and worthwhile charities. Another thing I will remember about him was he used "P.L.Newman" on his cars to at least try to be one of the guys. A class act.

My favourite role for him was in 'Slapshot'. :) Also one of my favourite movies, and in interviews I've heard of him, his favourite role he ever played. And the oldest man to ever win a professional event.

A fine gentleman, a great loss.
