Ok I'm installing a Clarion head unit, and it has different settings for night and day, but here is the problem, it seems to me that ford harnesses do not have an illumination wire that's sees 12v when the light switch is turned on...instead there is a dimmer and a dimmer ground... these don't help me much with this after market head unit since it doesn't seem to give 12v like the illumination line would...is there a way around this? It's not a huge deal, would be nice to get it working though

Try to tap off a parking lamp for the 12V trigger!

The + side is the same variable voltage as what runs the dash lights. Most aftermarket stereo's recognize this signal for the dimmer feature. Some even sense the voltage and dim accordingly.
Cap of the ground. It hits ground when the lights come on.
