View Full Version : Do you still get a warning with "real" oil pressure gauge?

I have the Autometer oil pressure gauge and sender ready to install. Will I still get a dashboard indicator if the oil pressure drops below a certain psi? Just worried about not noticing a drop on the console gauge pod if I am paying attention to the road or passengers.

No. But you don't get any indication other than the gauge with the OEM gauge, either.

Wow, didn't know that either. Thanks! Has anyone wired in an audible alarm to the Autometer sensor signal to indicate too high or too low pressure? That would be sweet...

Some of us have added a second pressure switch and warning indicator for too low oil pressure.

That was my mod and it works great. I mounted the light near the oil pressure gauge.

I added a buzzer I got at Radio Shack. Light and buzzer come on if oil pressure is below 12psi, like when starting the car, after an oil change, etc.

Can you think of any reason why I wouldn't be able to use the OE pressure switch instead of the PS103?

Yes. NO vs NC contacts.

The switch I used is about $5.00.

Does the buzzer and light go off with the key in the on position and the engine off?
Like a boat?
I owuld have to wire the power to something that is activated when the engine is running... like fuel injectors or something.
Then it would only buzz for a second during the start sequence.

Yes it is wired that way.

Yes it is wired that way.
Wired like a boat (buzzer with KOEO)
or
Wired to where the buzzer only activated when there is no pressure with the engine running?

Wired so when the key is on and no oil pressure the buzzer and light are on.

So you are not tapped into the accessory switched 12v for your buzzer? What switched 12v are you tapping?
Thanks

Anyone you can find. I don't remember. I installed it over a year ago. Sorry.

I just used a manual oil pressure gauge, and T-ed it off and kept the stock idiot light to boot. That way I can look at pressure but also have a warning light.

The Marauder doesn't have a "stock idiot light". According to the owners manual the only indication of low or no oil pressure is the gauge. And no, according to the owners manual the check engine light will not indicate low or no oil pressure.

fastblackmerc is correct. The wire from the factory oil pressure switch goes directly to the gauge and nowhere else.
