Does this leak look bad?

I was out cruising in the posh comfort of my super-pristine (and highly collectable) '83 F-150 and noticed the steering getting a tad heavy. Noisy too. It completely drowned out the harmonious sounds of my Ultra-Hi-fi Dolby THX (X3) 15.3 surround sound system. Turns out the reservoir was almost completely empty!

How odd, I thought. This rig is as reliable as the sun rise....possibly more so. I instructed my pit crew to fill it with some 10w40. It quieted down a bit but I think I may have a small leak.

A high quality rig like this shouldn't be barfing oil on the fenders...should it?

Will filling it with lithium grease be a good idea? Is the old saw dust and motor oil trick still a good one?

I have 240,000 on my 2000 F-150 and it runs like new.

My fenders looked like that after I installed my ultra high performance cross drilled brakelines. So I would have to say it's normal.:up::up:

Lol!!!! I don't spend much money on interior detailing either. Even so, it seldom gets dirty. Since cats can get in it with the windows and doors closed mice are unable to mess it up.

I just noticed the cab and box body lines don't match up too well. That's when I took a closer look and discovered the cab-frame body mounts are busted.

Apparently the only thing holding the cab to the frame are the brake lines, steering column, and heater hoses. That probably explains the chassis flex I felt while pulling hard out of the corkscrew during the Monterey Historic Automobile races at Laguna Seca last summer. You shoulda seen the look on the face of the guy next to me in his Aston Martin DB3!

It don't sound too bad John. Dunno 'bout saw dust though it might plug up the lines. We used to put banana peals in the diff to quiet it down some, but there weren't any of them pesky lines to get clogged up. There's some stuff called STOP LEAK for the radiator that's got mousie turd looking brown pellets in it, that works fairly well in radiators, and if you fish some of those out of the jar and mix 'em with some 90wt Synthetic (don't use cheap substitutes here) it might work just fine, although the steering might get a little stiff when the weather turns cold. :rolleyes:

This is just fine for that year, Everything else was overkill and restrictive. Did you get the optional see thru floor with under cab ram air?

I think it may have rolled over a few times.


I'm not sure if the odometer has rolled though.:D It reads 77k but really have no idea. It was given to my friend a while ago and he gave it to me.

It got it's first oil change in 7 years just last week.(actually "oil" isn't an accurate term for what I dumped out of it. "Semi-metallic, psuedo-viscous greasy fluid" is more accurate).

I also ran it without an air filter until last fall. :banana:

Hey Dom, Why are you fixing that K5 anyway? NOW is when trucks get REAL fun! Might I suggest some camo paint, tossing the roof, getting some 35" tires, finding some mud, and blasting some Ted Nugent. You'll meet women you never knew existed.
