In the lounge, because its not MM related.

I'm looking at changing the brakes on my Thunderbolt (2003 2wd Ranger).

My question is if anyone has any recommendations on a better-than-stock pad? I do like that the stocks have never made much noise.

Is it normal to be changing them at 26,000 miles?

I want to upgrade to slotted rotors (i don't like the look of drilled). I'm also thinking of changing to a better-than-stock fluid.

26k miles does seem awfully short...maybe part of the performance package was performance brake pads that wear quickly? Napa ceramics have always worked very well for me, no noise and very little dust.

I've been using Valvoline DOT 3&4 fluid on my vehicles and that seems to work very well, will be flushing my MM with some shortly.

I have the Napa adaptive1 pads and love em, try power slot rotors, I have them on the rear but I'm still waiting on the fronts, they look great.

Yes, front brakes. They're "pulsing", I can feel/kind of hear the pads grinding on the rotors.

Good/Bad? They have the ceramic pads.

Pulsing is probably rotor warpage. No matter how you do it, something will have to wear. If you buy good rotors, you may want a cheaper pad (have the pads wear rather than rotors). It may not even matter to you, but I drive a lot of miles. I'd rather do pads than rotors anytime.

My Explorer used to go through brakes at a prodigious rate as well. No fun!
