I recently traded in my 2003 Dodge Ram quad cab 2wd pickup for a 2008 GMC Sierra extended cab 4x4. My wife really liked the Pontiac G8 and we briefly considered trading both the Dodge and the MM for the G8. Logic prevailed and we went with the Sierra ($9000+ off). But what I wanted to bring up was what I was offered for my MM. The dealer offered $11k and I laughed at him. He then called around and hit some "specialty car brokers" and got an offer of $13K unseen. I told him I wouldn't consider less than $15K. But it seems the market prices for the MMs really vary depending where you are in the US.

My car is not exceptional. It is a 39K 2003 300A black/black with the only mods being a tune and a K&N FIPK. It is clean but my idea of a wax job is turning the knob to wax at the self serve car wash. I might wax it berore winter but it sits under a car cover in my car port most of the time. I guess I'm not obsessive enough to be a true dedicated owner. But I do love to drive it. Rick

I have a 2003 SB with 94K miles. The dealer offered me $4,500 while Car Max upped the offer to $5,000. I am still trying to sell the car privately.

The dealers don't know the value, that is why they have to rely on other wholesale sources to obtain thier numbers.
This may be the bottom of the value of these cars, after we work our way back to reasonability.

My brother was offered 8500 for his at a Carmax-type place. We laughed and showed him the book value- at the time it was 18,000

What they offered you for your car is reasonable. With the market, 13,000 is pretty decent for a trade in value.

yes take it...

although Raudermaster got an offer of $16k for his newly supercharged 31k mile MM.... it was a lucky offer.

On one hand I'd take the 13k and run. But then again, in two years that G8 will be worth 15-17k. I'm waiting for the GM depreciation game before buying a G8.

Much better off selling as a private sale than as a trade. As for the G8, Im waiting for the 415 hp Corvette powered one with a 6 speed manual that comes out in December. Trading the Montego.

Seems to be the going prices on E-Bay and other ads I've seen, depending on mileage, in the low teens.

I guess the point I was trying to make was...... This is the price a dealer was willing to pay. Most trade in prices seem to be $4000 to $5000 below the price (retail) the dealer is going to ask for on his lot. If a specialty broker was willing to pay $13,000 then he thought there was a good chance he'd be able to make a few grand on the sale. That would translate to a "asking price" of $17,000 to $18,000.

Knock off $2,000 for a private sale and that is what a MM should be selling for in the Midwest. NOT $9,600. MM sellers are shooting themselves in their own foot selling so cheap. Rick

Don't be a sucker. This is a carmax low priced one. In chitown they still average $19-$21,000 at carmax and yes they do sell for that. I payed $22,500 for mine when it was one year old and 13,400 miles. I'd like to think it was a smart purchase. They offered me $13,000 last year and i laughed so hard i pooped my pants a little bit. This was when they had two for sale at over $20,000 with the lowest mileage one having 25,000 more miles than mine! Over $7 grand profit from my car? Not this guy.

Back in march of 2007 my dad could not drive due to health issues & my mom asked me to take his 04 DTR with only 14k miles to Carmax to sell it. I was shocked that they paid $19k for it. The really sad part is that my mom & dad offered me the car for $12k & I didn't have the cash at the time.

Must have been perfect timing on your trade or somebody that worked there wanted it bad enough that they stepped up with a real offer. They know when then B.S. starts flying most of us start walking never to return.
