View Full Version : What would your get away car be?

Now this could be for a bank robery, running from a tornado, whatever. So that being said what if you had to have a well rounded fast reliable vehicle that could handle itself with a few small bang ups, potholes, possible cornfield adventure, could also be some obstecules like shopping carts and garbage cans. With staying stock other than choice of tires what would your vehicle be?

The first one to my mind would probably be a car my step brother used to scare the crap out of me in and that would be a 69-70ish dodge wagon with the 440 and i would probably go with some kind of a snow tire on it not knowing where my adventure will end up.

So whats your pick?

I'll take my 72 Ford Maverick. They are indestructable and with the 302 it's fast as all get out.

Some good choices! Keep em coming.

But keep in mind these will get banged up and traction could be crucial!

How about these:

late seventies f250

or one of my old rides a 79 chrysler new yorker (a dang tank!!! Ask me about some stories at the next get together)!

Dom's Marauder:lol:Just kidding buddy! besides at least your car has allready seen this experience Mr. speed bump stunt driver.

Takedown's coupe deville would also be a great choice but i wouldn't wanna wreck that classic! Awesome ride Drew.

The '76 Town Car with the 460 4bbl I had a long time ago. As big as the Queen Mary, big tough bumpers, good old fashioned sheetmetal (not sheet tin), gobs of torque for those "drive thru, over, into" kind of driving situtations that might arise ;).

Depends what for and where.

A M1 Abrams would be great fun in a tornado.

A Smart Fortwo would be a great city bank job get away car.

A Polaris Rzr in the mountains would lose the police everytime.

A Gibbs Aquada would be great for escaping the Mafia in Venice Italy.

In the middle of Kansas a '49 Taylor Aerocar would be perfect on a sunny day, after your partner hits the bank.

I'd wanna say my MM, 'cause its dependable, I love it, and have a no man left behind thing where I'd just throw the rims in the trunk for weight + supplies & water, throw on some dirt tires, and haul ass for the hills. But if it were, say, a zombie apocalypse, the situation would call for me to borrow my, by that time late, neighbor's K5, bash my way though the, by now, silent but car choked streets and head for a safer location.

I would have to say either my 89 Full size Bronco 4x4 or an 01 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4....I have experienced both of those babies off road and loved them both...very durable...the Pathfinder that I am talking about currently has 140K on it and is still running like a champ!!

Ahhh the Z-Day scenario. I hadn't anticipated that one. In that case I'd take 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon Coupe a la Mad Max. :D

First off you wind up on one of those stupid video shows

Then you do a few years for the robbery:)

You need a car that blends in.....think honda......................... ....

I go with a Mekur XR4TI converted to 4 wheel drive like the german Serria Cosworth's. Only done up to Cosworth RS500 spec. or like my XR4TI engine is done... plenty of power out of a 4 banger then...
An XR4TI holds the world land speed record for 4 cylinder sedans... 208mph or some *****...

If it were straight desert roads... I'd go with a modified 72 Detomaso Pantera Pre-L model. Boss 351 Clevland motor with the body lines of an italian beauty queen. Mid engine too... great for silver states classic... my Pantera has been there...

Full offraod I'd think Bronco or Unimiog... unless I had time to custom modify a WWII era "Ford" Jeep. Oh and an armor Military Hummer MP spec if the gun turret was allowed... Ya Mark19

I would pick a gold Chevy Malibu - anyone ever see the commercial where all the bank robbers are STILL sitting in the car outside the freshly-robbed bank and all the cops show up and run AROUND the occupied car to go into the bank? It's THAT invisible. NO!?!?!? here it is;

If your talking Nuclear though you need a pre 1970's car/truck. The non computer systems do not get nuked and do not quit when a nuke emp pulse goes off. Anything newer would just be dead, unless made to survive, which nothing non military is.

So a 1954 Jeep would be the answer. Korean war vintage, unless your in a tornado. Then a bunker to park it. Now if you have roads and need to live in it, then an older 60's style RV.

If non nuclear, then a Coachman Elite:
http://fieldofrvdreams.com/listman/listings/images/4_1.jpg
although you could always put an old engine in a new RV.

If however you need to hide, then a US Submarines Pheonix 1000 would do the trick. Survive forever in one of those, if you have the right supplies:

Just stay away from ditches (where it broke an A-Arm) and hard reverse
maneuvers (where it broke a rear axle)

But where else can you find a car that keeps up with the best and can bounce the hills of Ca all day long with no undercarriage damage?

Having read the Zombie Survival Guide, I'd say either a armored car or a motorcycle. Motorcycles are very maneuverable in towns and can get around junk in the street. Zombies move slowly and can be passed with ease. Armored cars are invincible to zombies and you could survive in one indefinitely with enough supplies, but they have lousy fuel economy and could get stuck easily in rough terrain.

For a crime it would have to be a stolen car like in The Driver. Killjoy brings up a good choice with a Taxi for blending in. For running away I would take my K5. Nothing has ever stopped it except for a tree a few winters ago.

Yeah, its my fav movie, ever. Michael Mann used the actual sounds of the blanks going off, and can be heard nicely reflecting off the buildings in the distance.

Absolute must-see for anyone who loves action movies, or just loves amazing surround sound.

*Man Slaps Jinx* You fool, or maybe you skipped that page. Just get yourself a mountain bike. Or that motorcycle that they've just made that runs just on pure vegetable oil.

This ^^^^ was my first thought too. A Honda Civic in silver, white or black could be hidden in nearly any shopping center or mall parking lot in broad daylight without being noticed. The best part is that you could walk away from it -- never return -- and not give a crap at all.

I'd still just be happy with the F-350 Crew Cab Dually 4x4. 700km range, Seats six, Carries enough supplies, food, fuel, whatever, and with the 10 ply tires and FX4 kit it can handle just about anything. Missed a ditch the other day (well missed seeing it, didn't miss driving into it) and stopped with one set of rears hanging three feet over a chasm. Engage 4-wheel and continue on without so much as a slip.
tried out an old hill climb the other day that used to be a bit of a challenge by times for the Explorer and didn't even slip a wheel.
Ran over some rocks at my folks land that had sliced and diced (and left me stranded for an hour) my Dad's F-250 tires and the 10plys didn't even notice.
At work, the Dumpster Dudes keep dropping the dumpster in my parking space (which is wherever I feel like parking) and the Texas Push Bar moves it quite nicely into the bosses parking spot.
What else could I want for a get-away/survival vehicle? maybe a truck-bed camper, but nothing else springs to mind.

I had a strip down f350 reg. cab plow truck, so i know what you mean! Even better was my 79 bronco.

Hah! I had a '78 and it had what appeared to be 3/4 ton running gear on it. Between an absolutely "Could-not-be-killed" engine and the posi diffs, this thing was out of this world. The only time it got stuck was when it sank in estuary silt and the tide came in. The only thing I lost from that encounter with nature was the starter motor two weeks later.
The only reason I couldn't make it my getaway vehicle is that I figured I'd want something with a body around it, and '78 Broncos certainly had trouble keeping those for any length of time.
