I came across a 2004 mercury marauder for sale in Lnghorne. They were asking (dealer) 18,988- 24,450 miles. However, after some "haggling" I got him down to 16,600. What do you guys think about it.

The car has:
traction control
heated seats
air ride suspension
light gray interior
and a lot of other awesome option

The also said they have a 6yr warranty (or 100,000 miles) whichever comes first. This means from date of purchase. So basically, I have a little less than two years of coverage on the MM.

What is your take on this guys?!?!?

Any input is greatly appreciated

The light flint interior makes it very rare.
Best of luck on getting it in your hands.

accordning to MM.org there were only 147 black '04 marauders with the gray interior so that is one of the rarest of the marauders

Dear Sport Tank:
I spoke to this dealer as well (Salesman = Ron).... See below... The car is a nice one however, it's been through a few winters in PA. The original owner used it as a daily driver. It was well cared for and maintained. I haven't offered him anything yet. Let me know if you do decide to purchase it... Good luck!

Yeah but! Only 24K on the clock on a 5 year old car? Low miles for a daily driver.

Roy is a member who can run a report from Ford and see what has been done to the car. Like a internal Ford carfax, so to speak.

Just pm him the vin number.

Still a high price but seems like a really nice car. After you check with Roy Pita ansd assuming all is ok therer Id offer the dealer around 15k for it. Times are hard out there the market is full of cars, he might take it.

yeah true. I do want to get it bad, but im kinda worried about the warranty though. Last thing I need is for something to go wrong when I get it

RoyLPita who's name is not Roy. Will do an Oasis report if you ask nicely.

Post up the Vin # and request, nicely, a carfax, or better yet buy one yourself and have a carfax warranty.

Price looks good always aim between 80-90% of asking price. If not 80% make sure all paper work and or taxes are included.

Note MM.org has not updated the production numbers.

Nothing beats seeing the car in person. Find out if it is 100% stock and consider reading the tune section, here, for information on your first suggested upgrade.

And if it is the right car, buy it!!!

Don't worry too much about fit and finish. Marauder generally have big gaps here that there lights that are crooked and you can see the paint colour on the doors from the inside when they are closed.

You could check under the doors for rust though, see if the engine is clean, check the air suspension, again do not be concerned if the compressor pump is noisy, just make sure it works.

Blue smoke on start up is normal particularly if the car has been sitting for a while.

The Sound system: There is a check programme for it, search aorund here there is a post on it somewhere. Slam the back doors a couple of times when the stereo is on, this may cause a short or buzz sound, if so get a discount. You will likely upgrade this so it isn't a problem as much as a bargining tool.

Run the seats and the pedals back and forth a few times. If they get stuck or do not work again, you can knock more money off the price.

Check the AC and make sure the shut off doors all work on the dash. Try heat and AC out and make sure it works on all settings. See if the Warranty covers the AC this is an expensive thing to fix.

Check to see that the big tires are on the back and that there is a spare. Likely for an 04 it will be a donut you will be replacing this later on. See if they know the door keypad code or if it is on a sticker somewhere in the car or in the manual pack.

Check for blinking LED lights on the door panels. This is not uncommon and most of us just ignore it but sometimes it gets annoying. Ticking noise, search for this on this site.

Chipped windows particularly the rear one.

Bad fitting seat leather, at 24K miles it shouldn't be a problem, the front seats may have a loose piece with a chunk of plastic swinging around this is normal.

Paint blemishes or peeling.

that's all I can think of off the top of my head, search the site for problems.

You might want to check the date on the tires as well. there will be a code on them first 2 digits is the week of the year they were made, the last two digits the year they were made. anything over 6 years old is bad and needs to be replaced. 4406 is good, 3202 is bad. it is printed on the inside of the tire in a rounded square outline. If they have 3403 tires they need to be replaced very soon so price that in too.

Thanks.
I don't mind saying that I paid $16,750. It had 24,720 apparently pampered miles upon pick-up. Black/Light Flint w/ heated seats, trunk organizer and CD changer. I'll try to take some pics soon as I am devoid of an avatar. As soon as I drove it, I knew that it was for me. It's a semi daily driver as I don't want to put too many miles on it. I kept my Honda for miles and rainy/snowy days.

I developed the wacky wipers after about a month. Took it back to the dealer and they covered it along with both heated seat switches (lights) and the driver window switch (light), no questions asked.

I'm working the weekend of Carlisle, but I'll look into other events. Maybe next years Carlisle.

Your new Marauder is identical to mine.

Except mines got 65,000 miles and it would take a heck of a lot more cash to get it from me than you paid.

Good deal, great car!

Congrats and welcome :welcome1: to the MM.Net.

Trunk organizer, 6-CD changer, heated seats, rear spoiler and Moonroof were the only options available. All the other stuff is Standard on an '04 Marauder.
