Can anyone make suggestions on the best way to ship 4 tires on rims? I can only imagine that UPS or Fed Ex will be expensive.

Try a freight carrier. I believe Tire Rack ships via UPS. You might want to dismount the tires from the wheels and ship separately. You can tape the four tires together and box the wheels to protect them.

Try one of the car movers. They have room to put tires in a carrier and if they are already in the area or going there the cost could be alot less then UPS or Fed-ex and there is no packaging needed. One I called about picking up some tires and rims for me from CA to Wi was Glen Goggins. His number is 417-872-9821.

Its usually about $25-$35 per tire/wheel combo to just about anywhere.
It costs less than you think because they are so easy to move (roll)

Hi,
Via what carrier? I got a quote of 100 for a car mover to pick up in CA and deliver to Wi.

Do that. That is a great deal.
Packing them, just put two pieces of cardboard, one on each side, and then use heavy duty plastic wrap and wrap it up real good. It'll make it easier than trying to fit it in a box.

This is the way to do it. I see TIRE RACK shipments on the UPS truck that comes to my office & that's the way they send them.

Exactly.
Most tires are 8-10 dollars to ship ground.
Not sure about rims, but I am about to find out.;)
My company allows us to use our account and pay ourselves.
We ship so much that our discount is 20-30%
Is that an option for you?
Also, I have shipped quite a bit through FedEx Freight service.
This stuff moves along in semis with other freight typically to a bussiness address. Far cheaper than the truck.
Call that department with a skidded weight, dimension, and destination to see their cost.

That's the way the Tire Rack does it. When they ship just tires they band two together depending on the tire size. When I got my snow tire and steelie package each tire and wheel assembly had heavy cardboard on both sides banded with plastic. The UPS guy wasn't happy that day.

The last set I sold and shipped I put cardboard on each side and taped them up real good. Shipped them via DHL at like $8 a tire.

Was that with the tire installed on the rim?

Was that with the tire installed on the rim?Yes tire and rim were installed. Of all the places I checked DHL had the best price and they even let me use their plastic wrap at no charge. I weighed one tire and wheel combo, had the address it was being shipped to, cut my cardboard, and then went to one of their shipping sites and wrapped them in the lobby, and sent them off. Granted things have changed in the economy since i shipped mine so prices could be higher now.
