I put a shower in, took less than a week, hired the job out. How long did this take you??? (p.s., you Fail on the timeline) nice job, though.

I redid an entire bathroom a year ago - cement board was recommended because getting it wet doesn't mean replacing it. Whatcha mean lose?

I'm also interested in the heated floor - please to post pics and process. Our next house will have one - didn't mess with it on this one because I know we aren't staying long.

Oh yeah. I did the entire project in less than 5 days, wallboard, texture, paint, floor, all fixtures including oversized corner shower.

Crack is awesome.

Zack, did you go with the electric wiring grid for your heat or radiant tubing?

I've done one wired floor and many radiant set-ups. My blacktop driveway is completely shot and will be switching over to either concete or brick with radiant heating in the not so far future. NO MORE SNOW!!!!!

Make sure to use un-sanded grout on the tile. I re-did my bathroom two years ago and made a few mistakes. The biggest one was getting a cheapo fan. At the time, I didn't think spending $70 was cheap.

Blow the budget a get a quiet one. (unless you want a new bathroom to sound like an old wind tunnel).

Also, silicone caulk doesn't like getting painted over.

I did the same thing in my Mother's Basement. No heated floor though. I used a roll on rubber membrane beneath the tile, then concrete. Porcaline mosaics, 2x2. Sanded grout on the floor, unsanded on the ceramic wall tile. Two safety grab bars.

The one I put in is a bit bigger, 3.5 feet X 4.5 feet. Needed enough room for a seat in there. I built it for my Brother, who has a really bad back and some issues with his hips. Why he insists on being in the basement, is beyond me????

When I first saw what Zack was doing, I thought, Hey, I just did that.....

With the shower curb, this measures in at 40 x 60

Nice to see fellow home improvers. We've got two bathrooms we are going to remodel in the next couple of years. I'll be putting in a radiant heating system too. Nothing like cold tile on da feet to wake you up...brrrrr.
A good fan is a must. make sure to get one that has a timer switch. Too many people tie the fan into the light circuit. When they exit the bathroom, and the air is still humid from the shower, the fan goes off and the water condenses on cold surfaces. This leads to mold. We went with a Fan Tech attic fan which is very quiet and pulls suction from two bathrooms.

Radiant floor heat is great. Just did my sunroom two years ago with water tubes and it's the most comforatble room in the house!

Is that premix tile adhesive on the cement board seams or thinset? I am finishing up my first shower tear out and re-do, installing cement board and tile. Not fun.

Becky says she can't leave the shower now, so I think he used a combination called Quick-sand.

Yeah, same thing here.:shake:

My wife figures that ANY home remodeling project CAN'T take over an hour, 'cause that's how long it takes on HGTV.;)
